R&B crooner R. Kelly’s unique spin on Beyonce’s ‘If I Were A Boy’ surfaced a few hours and already has tongues wagging. Though it’s a bit of a cut and paste job on the production front, it’s still pretty engaging lyrically.

It seems the ‘beef’ between Kanye West and 50 Cent, which culminated in Kanye’s ‘Graduation’ besting ‘The Massacre’ last September, has been reignited as both rappers prep new albums. Check out Kanye’s latest blog which takes jibes at the G-Unit general – who rubbished Ye’s latest single ‘Love Lockdown’ (click here to watch 50 ‘performing’ the song):just woke up from a quick studio nap… I’ve been workin’ on 808s and Heartbreak about 16 hrs a day and Superman passed out for a little bit… I’m in hawaii but I’m still on NY time so I wake up mad early, do some business, blog, jog for an hour, play ball, eat and then hit the stu by noon. While approving the final cut for the Love Lockdown vid, I marvel at the fact that it was written less than 3 weeks ago. I’m very excited about the everything… I guarantee this will be 50’s favorite album of mine. This will be gangster’s album of the year. {Source}
There’s no doubt this is a ploy to drive sales for both projects. In any case, here’s to Kanye winning ‘Round 2′!

Fresh off the success of ‘American Boy’, UK breakout star Estelle is set to serve up ‘Come Over’ as the 2nd US single from her highly acclaimed ‘Shine’ LP. This brand new version, not found on the album, features Sean Paul – who I must say compliments the already great track very well. Good stuff.In other Estelle news, the singer’s hit ‘American Boy’ rockets a whopping 43 places on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week to #9. It really makes me proud to see Ms. Swaray doing it B-I-G in the States – many a UK artist has tried, without luck, to establish themselves in the US. More power to her. Anyway, back to the song lol…

Some of you may remember this new Keri Hilson track, ‘Shake It Like A Dog’, from last year; the track was originally recorded by Mya for placement on her ill-fated ‘Liberation’ LP. Now featuring R&B crooner R. Kelly, as well as amped-up production (the beat knocks!), the track has been re-branded by Keri on her serially delayed album ‘In A Perfect World’ (which has now been pushed back to November 4th (SMH). I must say, I’m really feeling this one….a lot. Here’s hoping the pushback and delays with Keri’s record don’t hamper what is sounding like a very deserving (of success) album.

Check out Beyonce on the set of her new movie ‘Obsessed’ in Los Angeles yesterday. The ‘Crazy In Love’ star plays the wife of a successful businessman, whose life (and that of his family) is threatened by a crazy office worker of his who turns out to be a stalker. Interesting stuff lol. I’m thinking this will be the make or break role for Beyonce’s quest to be taken seriously as an actress. ‘Dreamgirls’ was definitely a step in the right direction, however, this is obviously the more challenging role. ‘Obsessed’ hits theatres worldwide in March next year.

As Hip-Hop veteran LL Cool J preps his new album ‘Exit 13′ – his final LP for longtime label Def Jam – for its July 8th release, a cut from the set has surfaced. ‘Cry’, featuring R&B songstress Lil Mo, sees the rapper re-embrace the sound that made him such a prominent feature of the 90s music scene. Liking this one, I must say. Hit or Miss?

As some of you may already know, the child molestation trial of R&B crooner R. Kelly began this week; it didn’t take long for what will inevitably be a courthouse and media circus to commence. Check out the report via TMZ:Could a skin doc end up saving R. Kelly’s hide? Looks like it, since his lawyers are basing pretty much his entire defense on one mole – the dark, irregularly-bordered kind.
The pisstastic singer’s trial finally began yesterday, and openings were just as lurid as the tape at its center. The defense claims that the guy in the video doesn’t have a mole, but Kelly does. Maybe the most shocking moment came when the defense claimed that the woman in the tape was a prostitute: “[The alleged victim is sweet and nice,” said Kelly’s lawyer. “The woman in this tape is a prostitute.”
Among other interesting sexual curiosities, the girl calls the man in the vid “daddy” and he apparently pays her at the end.
This one looks set to be pretty interesting. The trial is expected to last 2 weeks.
