Raz B Reportedly Signs With Tila Tequila Records

razzb Raz B Reportedly Signs With Tila Tequila Records

While his former B2K bandmate Omarion is struggling to have an impact on the charts, Raz B has reportedly been signed to Tila Tequila Records. The singer will supposedly be managed by the Tequila herself and is said to be working on a reunion album with the rest of the B2K members, including Omarion. Raz B’s first solo album on the label will be released by the end of 2010. {Source}

*Takes a breath* This has to be a joke. Who in their right mind would sign a record deal and agree to be managed by someone who clearly does not have a grip on their own career? Clearly, if this is true, Raz B has to be so desperate to get a cheque that he is willing to sign anything attached to a few zeros. Seriously, if artists signed to major labels are struggling to sell albums, then what has possessed him to think that he can get a hit with Tila Tequila?

I really sense that this is indeed untrue and Tequila has finally gone clinically insane. As you may remember, Omarion himself denounced any idea of him reuniting with B2K during his interview with Kendra G. News like this really makes me wonder about what is wrong with the world today. Hot doodoo mess.

Ciara Update

Peep Ciara’s performance of ‘Love Sex Magic’ on the Ellen Degeneres Show yesterday above. As with the Saturday Night Live rendition of the song, Ciara killed it. Awesome performance.
In other Ciara news, the singer’s 3rd studio album ‘Fantasy Ride’ debuts at #3 on the Billboard 200 this week, with sales of 81,000. Christette Michelle claimed the top spot with her new LP ‘The Ephiphany’, which sold 83,000. Hannah Montana’s annoying self sits at #2 LOL. I really think it’s important to note that Christette’s album was retailing for a paltry $3.99, which I guess could explain what is no doubt a chart shocker.
That said, there is no shying away from the fact that higher numbers for Ciara were expected. Interestingly, our interview with CiCi was supposed to take place last week, however was conducted just before she did Ellen yesterday and we were able to ask her about her thoughts on sales (which were being counted as we were speaking). Look out for the interview later this week!
Word has it, the label have opted for a double release for the follow-up to ‘Love Sex Magic’ and ‘Never Ever’, with ‘Like A Surgeon’ being serviced to the Urban market and ‘Work’ to Pop. IMO they couldn’t have picked two better singles. Great choices.

Mary’s ‘Growing Pains’ Sells 629,000 First Week

Mary J. Blige Mary J. Blige made a huge impact on the Billboard 200 album chart with her eighth studio album ‘Growing Pains’. The Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul sold through an impressive 629,000 copies of the LP – the follow-up to her 2005 multi platinum effort ‘The Breakthrough’. Despite this, Blige charted at #2 – unable to oust Josh Groban’s ‘Noel’ album from the top spot (which sold 757,000 in it’s third week of release).
In other album news, Alicia Keys’ ‘As I Am’, currently #3 on the chart, enjoys a 62% sales increase with 474,000 copies sold. Chris Brown continues to sell consistently with ‘Exclusive’, selling 176,000. Jaheim’s ‘Making Of A Man’ enters at #11 with 176,000 units shifted, whilst Lupe Fiasco’s ‘The Cool’ occupies the #15 spot with 143,000 copies sold.
Lower down the chart, Bow Wow and Omarion’s ‘Face Off’ takes a tumble – dropping 11-29 with 89,000 sold. In what must be an embarrassment for Disturbing The Peace star Chingy, the rapper’s latest LP ‘Hate It Or Love It’ came in at a dismal #84, having sold just 31, 517 copies. Ouch.

Whitney Confirms Comeback Performance

A radiant looking Whitney Houston confirmed that she will be taking to the stage at the Live & Loud music festival in Malaysia on December 1st. The renown diva will perform a one-hour set of her many hits.

Like everyone else, I’m anxious to see if she still has ‘it’ in her. I’m rooting for her all the same and hope she pulls it off.

Do you think Whitney can have a successful comeback?

Donda West’s Passing: The Latest

kanye and donada Donda Wests Passing: The Latest As many of you by now Kanye West’s mother, Dr. Donda West, sadly passed away over the weekend. West was 58. Whilst no official word has been given on the cause of death, some reports have cited ‘complications from cosmetic surgery’. Check out the reports below, both via TMZ:
A plastic surgeon refused to perform plastic surgery on Dr. Donda West because he thought there was a risk of a heart attack. Dr. Andre Abolian told her she needed to get clearance from an internist but Dr. West went ahead with a tummy tuck and breast reduction without the co-sign from the internist.

The fire service were called to Ms West’s residence, following a 911 call:

A hospital spokesperson tells TMZ that an unresponsive West was brought to their ER around 8:00 PM Saturday night. They attempted to resuscitate her, but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead around 8:30 PM that night.

Whatever the cause, this really is sad. When I heard the news on Saturday, I was in shock. Evidently Kanye and Donda were close and it’s probably near impossible to identify with what he’s going through right now. Having been in London when he received the news, I can’t help but think what the plane journey home must have been like for him. My condolences go out to the entire West family. RIP Dr. Donda West.

Screamfest New York – Hip Hop Shows Out

fiddidyejay2 Screamfest New York Hip Hop Shows Out The Screamfest tour hit New York’s Madison Square Garden yesterday (August 22nd) and looked to be a great show all-round. Hip Hop showed out in a major way with Jay Z, Diddy, T.I, Kanye West and 50 Cent (you read right) appearing on stage together. Check out more pics of the event below:

That first pic of 50 standing alone is priceless lol…though I’m sure it was just taken at the wrong time. Kanye and 50 onstage together is kinda suspect, but I doubt their ‘chart battle’ is a publicity stunt (as some will no doubt be thinking) – they were never ‘beefing’ (like that) to begin with. LMAO at Yung Joc – since when did rappers do strip teases?

Whitney Performs With CeCe Winans

Singer Whitney Houston gave a surprise performance at the 2007 Sisters Conference with CeCe Winans. The pair performed their 1996 hit ‘Count On Me’ from the ‘Waiting To Exhale’ soundtrack. Though brief, it sounds like Whitney’s voice is back in great shape. I’m really waiting on that comeback album of hers. If the material is on-point (like the ‘My Love Is Your Love’ CD), then she may be onto a winner.

Amerie ‘Because I Love It’ Review

00 amerie because i love it front Amerie Because I Love It Review

Prior to now, I haven’t been feeling much of Amerie’s material. However, after hearing her latest album ‘Because I Love It’, I must say that she really delivered. Many have questioned how good the album would be, seeing as she didn’t work with longtime collaborator Rich Harrison (‘1 Thing’, Why Don’t We Fall In Love’ etc). Yet, by switching things up, Amerie has managed to carve out a great new sound for herself.
The CD has a distinct 80’s throwback vibe to it, whilst also managing to stay current; the funky ‘Crazy Wonderful’ and ‘Some Like It’ are good examples of this. Other album highlights include current single ‘Take Control’, the vintage Brit-Pop sounding ‘Crush’ and ballad ‘All Roads’. Upon listening to the album, it’s also evident that Amerie has stepped up her vocals; she isn’t hitting Mariah-esque notes but her voice now has alot more range. ‘When Loving You Was Easy’ is probably the best vocal performance I have heard from the ‘Touch’ singer before. The album’s less entertaining moments are few and far between, with only the Harrison-sounding ‘Hate2LoveUand filler ‘Paint Me Over’ not needing to be featured.

Amerie has consciously separated herself from the sound of many of the other ‘R&B Chicks’ and has produced a great album in the process. ‘Because I Love It’ is definitely worth a buy. The CD hits stores 11th May in Germany, 14th May in the UK, 16th May in Japan and summer in the USA.

Will you be picking up ‘Because I Love It’?
