Brandy Hits Out At Darkchild

brandy33 e1272275070735 Brandy Hits Out At Darkchild

Brandy‘s new VH1 reality show ‘A Family Business’ has proved a ratings winner, with it’s weekly dishing up of drama no doubt a major factor of its success. Last night’s episode was no different, with the singer shown hitting out at former friend and collaborator Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins to brother Ray J, who is set to work with the hitmaker.

As the video, which you can watch below, highlights, the former Moesha star, holds Jerkins responsible for the poor performance of her last LP ‘Human’ – which he executive produced. Check it out below….

New Song: Toni Braxton – ‘Lookin’ At You’

toni 2 New Song: Toni Braxton Lookin At You

Toni Braxton is preparing for the release of her new studio album, ‘Pulse’ later this year. Emerging from her studio session is the up-tempo ‘Lookin’ At You’ which was produced by Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins. ‘Pulse’ hits stores on March 2nd.

Infectiously catchy, this beat-driven track is one of the better tracks that have surfaced from Braxton’s new project. Her voice works well with the production without getting lost behind the it. However, I am concerned about this album because, thus far, none of the material has had the elements of a smash hit. Hopefully, Braxton has something major plan for the 2nd single because her previous release, ‘Yesterday’, while peaking at #12 on the Hip-Hop/R&B chart, has failed to make a major impact on the mainstream formats.

New Song: Lady GaGa – ‘Reloaded (Ft. Darkchild)’

lady grammy New Song: Lady GaGa Reloaded (Ft. Darkchild)

Lady GaGa has been everywhere lately promoting her critically acclaimed ‘The Fame Monster’ album. However, a new song has surfaced in what is speculated to be from her studio sessions while recording the LP. The track features Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jenkins, who also the record’s producer.

This is a somewhat different direction for GaGa and one that I find a bit boring. Although the song may prove to be a ‘grower’ like her other Darkchild production ‘Telephone’, I felt that something was lacking, with too much emphasis being placed on the beats. In fact, Jerkins’ verse going large unnoticed (and very difficult to decipher) behind the thick productions. If this was indeed from her ‘The Fame Monster’ recordings, then I fully understand why it was not included on the album.

Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins Releases ’50 Single Medley’

darkchild Rodney Darkchild Jerkins Releases 50 Single Medley

Super producer Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins released a special compilation mix to commemorate producing 50 smash hit singles. Hands-down my favourite producer (hence my excitement when hearing an artist is working with him), listening to this really drove home why he has sustained in this at-times fickle industry after 15 years. A poignant reminder of why Jerkins is the premier hit-maker of all hit-makers. A great retrospective cut.

Ciara And Darkchild Collaborate On New Album

ciara1 Ciara And Darkchild Collaborate On New Album

Popular producer Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins has been hard at work in the studio throughout 2009. However, the musician, who will be releasing a 50 track medley of his greatest hits later this evening on  his official website, shows no signs of slowing down. In a recent announcement on his twitter page, Jerkins revealed that he has returned to the studio with Ciara, whom he collaborated with on her ‘Fantasy Ride’ LP on the track ‘Pucker Up’. ‘Fantasy Ride’ has sold a dismal 300, 000 copies to date.

This is some very interesting news. As one of people who largely enjoyed Ciara’s ‘Fantasy Ride’, I was very disappointed that the project failed to take off, especially given her extensive list of strong performances. Hopefully Darkchild will be able to give her the fire that she needs to propel herself to the top of the charts.

Sidebar: I am very happy that she decided not to let The-Dream and Tricky Stewart handle the entire project. Although Mariah Carey’s ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’ was a solid album, the sound got rather redundant half-way through.

Britney Teams Up With Darkchild

Britney Sony Shot08 018V2LR2 Britney Teams Up With Darkchild

With Britney Spears‘ new album set for a May 2010 release, the Pop starlet and her team have enlisted hitmaker Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins (‘Feedback’, ‘When I Grow Up’) to produce for the project. Confirming the news of his Twitter page today, Jerkins said:

In the studio creating a smash for Britney right now!!! Got the call this morning!!! January we start!!!

I’m somewhat cynical about Ms Spears’ dropping a new album, when all signs point to her being nowhere near capable of performing at world-class standard…hell, not even a local talent show (I’m not being a cow…I’m just being honest). That said, news of her working with Darkchild and apparently reverting back to the more Urban-influenced/darker sound of her ‘Blackout’ LP (her best IMO), has me quite eager to hear her new studio offerings. I’m just hoping she remembers how to dance come time of album release, as I doubt many will be cutting her any slack for sloppy performances this go-round.

Tidbit: Other producers/writers said to be working on the project include Danja, Fernando Garibay, and Sean Garrett.

Rodney Jerkins: “Janet Recording Up-Tempo Dance Album”

Janet Jackson Harpers Bazaar US October 41 Rodney Jerkins: Janet Recording Up Tempo Dance Album

In a recent interview with MTV, super-producer Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins revealed new details about Janet Jackson’s much anticipated new studio album, which he’s working on. Peep the full report below:

When we caught up with producer Rodney Jerkins on the VMA red carpet in September, he was already hard at work on Janet Jackson’s next studio album. Now the super-producer is opening up a lot more on exactly what fans can expect for Janet’s 11th studio album.

Janet is like my sister now,” Jerkins told MTV News on Wednesday (October 21) at his Los Angeles recording studio. “We definitely have this incredible chemistry, this bond — I think we musically connect, crazily. I knew it — it’s funny ’cause I predicted this. Five years ago, people used to ask me who I wanted to work with, and I was like, ‘Janet Jackson.’ And I was so passionate about that because I’ve always been a fan of her music and what her and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have done in the past. And I felt like, knowing she wants to try new things, that I feel I can get it and I can deliver it for her,” he said.

DarkChild explained that fans can look forward to an emotionally driven album.

“Since we’ve been working … I feel like the studio has become a second home for her because with the whole situation with Michael [Jackson] happening, and I feel like right now, emotionally, she can come here and let all her feelings out. I got her writing again — she has the pen and the pad in her hand.”

But it’s not just the recent passing of her brother Michael that is fueling the content of Jackson’s album. Fans are going to see a side of Janet that they’ve never seen before, thanks in part to Rodney’s persuasion.

“You gotta understand, she lost her brother. She was in a relationship for seven years that’s over now. There’s things that she told me that I didn’t even realize. You know, certain [things] like self-esteem that I didn’t even realize that she dealt with for years that you know. … She’s working on her book and she’ll deal with that in her book, but also in songs, certain songs we’re dealing with that head on. And sometimes it can be a touchy subject for us to even go into, and I kinda had to persuade her, ‘Let’s just go, let’s talk about that.’ And she’s been doing it, and she’s a pro about it.”

Although Rodney says you can expect some up-tempo dance tracks on the new album, it won’t have the futuristic sound we heard on her last project, 2008′s Discipline.

“It’s funny, ’cause when we just started the project, she was like, ‘I wanna do 10 dance records, all up-tempo to dance. Let’s just go dance,’ ” Jerkins said. The sound is inspired by worldwide influences, from African rhythms to Brazilian and Latin music, and RJ said we can expect features on this album like a Pitbull track that was recorded last week.

“But she hits me today and she says we need to do some mid-tempos as well,” Rodney continued. “And I’m glad for that because there’s a time when you listen to a record that you wanna mellow out and she always gives us those great smoothed-out mellow records. So now that she’s in that zone, it’s like ‘Yes!’ ’cause we can focus on that. But I’m still gonna keep the beats hard underneath ’cause she’s still a dancer at heart.”

Jenkins and Jackson co-produced her recently released single, “Make Me,” which will be included on her greatest-hits compilation Number Ones, due in November. A release date has not been announced for her yet-untitled studio album.

To say I can’t wait would be an understatement! I really feel this will be the album we’ve been waiting on Janet for – a largely up-tempo record with qualitative lyrical content. Roll on 2010!

Janet Jackson Releasing ‘#1s’; Working With Darkchild On New LP

36e5faeea0c64b816f391af2445e0bb6 Janet Jackson Releasing #1s; Working With Darkchild On New LP

It’s been a whirlwind week for Janet Jackson fans; from her Harpers Baazar interview to the announcement that she’d be performing at the VMA’s, to the electrifying performance itself, to debut of new song ‘Make Me’, it’s been a great time to be a Janet fan.
Well, things seem to be looking even greater for Ms. Jackson (if you’re nasty) supporters as it has been confirmed that the singer, 43, is set to release a new ‘#1′s’ LP via A&M/Interscope on November 13th. According to AOL, ‘Make Me’ is indeed the lead single from the 2-CD set, which will comprise of 30 of Janet’s global #1s. {Source}
Initially assuming the LP was some typical label cash in (Janet released her first 3 albums including ‘Control’ and ‘Rhymthn Nation’ on A&M), I was surprised to see the compilation will be 30 songs long and a 2 disc – this has me thinking it really will also include Janet’s newer material (from the ‘janet’ album right through to ‘Discipline’). Interscope’s involvement (as part of A&M/Interscope-Geffen/Universal) really has me leaning towards the notion that they may just be Ms. Jackson’s new label – which would be fantastic as they are a great label (home to Black Eyed Peas, Mary J Blige, Lady GaGa and more).
In other Janet news, hitmaker Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins has confirmed that he is working on her new original album (due 2010) – and has been for the last few months! Check out the report via MTV:
Sunday night, on the red carpet of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Grammy-winning super-producer Rodney Jerkins spoke fondly of his late friend Michael Jackson and how MJ once beat him at pool. Jerkins also revealed that he and the King of Pop’s baby sis, Janet Jackson, have been collaborating a lot lately. The first record from their sessions, “Make Me,” dropped just a few hours later.
“It’s about dancing,” Jerkins said. “It’s all about her. It’s about [saying], ‘Listen, if you really want to get with me, you gotta make me feel a certain way.’ “
Jerkins, who produced several tracks on Janet’s 2008 album, Discipline, said he and Ms. Jackson have a lot more songs to come.
“I’m working heavily with Janet,” Jerkins said, adding that her new album will have a throwback feel. “We’ve been in the studio for the last month. We’ve been getting it in. We’re going back to basics and fundamental sounds of Janet. We’re trying to target her fans [by making] the records that her fans will embrace. A lot of uptempo stuff makes you feel good. There’s so many different colors of Janet. I’m a fan, I’ve always been a fan of Janet. The Rhythm Nation, the Control, the Janet. record … those make you feel a certain way. It’s been fun. I’m excited about it.”
With their last big collabo being ‘Feedback’ – a Janet classic IMO; I’m definitely excited to see what they come up with. Insiders initially speculated that Janet would solely be making the album with longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, which evidently isn’t the case. Still, reports still suggest the award-winning production duo will feature on the album in a major way. With Darkchild being the producer who has brought out the best in Janet in recent years, a Darkchild, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Janet album sounds like one hell of a record.

Apologies for the slowish updates. Business as usual from here on out. A lot to look forward to this week….the Ashanti and Ne-Yo interviews (definitely) and much more.

Anyway, in an exclusive video blog for our affiliate site Rap-Up.com, hit-maker Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins reveals that Pop starlet Janet Jackson has officially severed ties with label Island Def Jam, after one album – this years’ ‘Discipline’. Check it out:

With Janet having been so vocal about her displeasure with her relationship with the label, this hardly comes as a surprise. Here’s hoping that with the success of Janet’s ‘Rock Witchu’ tour, things are on the look-up for Ms. Jackson (if you’re nasty!…).
