New Video: Soulja Boy – ‘Pretty Boy Swag’

soulja boy New Video: Soulja Boy Pretty Boy Swag

While it’s hard to believe that Soulja Boy is still so young (19), it’s even harder to believe that he is still inflicting the charts with his appalling brand of ‘music’. The latest of the tattooed-teen’s offerings is ‘Pretty Boy Swag’, the video of which premièred a few moments ago.

Though the song is as bad as expected – if not worse (truly criminal), it’s accompanying video doesn’t look bad at all. Still, when paired with such an atrocity of a song, the whole shabang comes up short.

Check out the hilarity after the jump…

Teairra Mari Performs ‘Sponsor’ On Mo’Nique Show

R&B singer Teairra Mari stopped by The Mo’Nique Show to perform new single ‘Sponsor’, as well as sit down for a chat with the Oscar winning comedienne. Check out the performance above, which featured Soulja Boy, as well as the interview after the jump…

Randomness: I have my Mo’Nique impression down to a tee! {“Yaaaaaaaasss”}.

New Video: Teairra Mari – ‘Sponsor (ft. Soulja Boy)’

R&B singer Teairra Mari premiered the video for new single ‘Sponsor’ a few moments ago exclusively on World Star Hip-Hop. Check out the Yolande Geralds directed clip above…

Put simply; the video pretty much serves its purpose. Though perhaps not as glossy as I imagined based on the stills and the behind the scenes footage, the clip is good enough to assist the song’s  ascent up the charts. Here’s hoping it does just that, as the song is fire on a track!

Tidbit: The only minor gripe I have with the video is that Gucci Mane’s rap is still included. With him not featuring in the video due his incarceration, it kinda just ate up time.

What do you think of the video?

New Video: Soulja Boy – ‘Pretty Boy Swag’

Some 3 years after splashing onto the scene with ‘Crank That’, it’s hard to believe Soulja Boy has extended his 15 minutes so long. Indeed the 19 year old is currently prepping the release of his third studio album ‘The Deandre Way’; a feat, which regardless of how one feels about his talent (or lack of) should be commended.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the rapper’s new single ‘Pretty Boy’ and its accompanying video, which premièred today. Simply described as an atrocity in every sense of the word, the lyrical content/delivery on this one has to be heard to be believed…

Hot Shots: Teairra Mari & Soulja Boy Steam It Up In ‘Sponsor’ Video

Check out R&B vixen Teairra Mari and Souja Boy on the set of the video for ‘Sponsor’ – Mari’s hot new single, which the rapper features on. Shot in Los Angeles earlier this week, the vid are sure to get tongues wagging. More than the PR buzz this generates though, I’m hoping the actual song goes on to chart well, as it’s perhaps one of the best uptempo R&B cuts I’ve heard in a long while. Put simply, it is the business!

Soulja Boy To Feature On Both Chris Brown And Rihanna’s Albums

soulja boy Soulja Boy To Feature On Both Chris Brown And Rihannas Albums

Young rapper Soulja Boy Tell’em will ironically feature on both Chris Brown and Rihanna’s upcoming LP’s. Rihanna’s album, ‘Rated R’, hits stores on November 23rd and Brown’s ‘Graffiti’ will be released on December 15th. Here what Soulja Boy had to say about his contributions to both projects:

“With this particular project [it was] like, ‘Whoa!’ because it was like, ‘Yo, I need you to do something for Rihanna’s album. You got 11 hours. Go,” Soulja Boy said about the last-minute call to work on an unspecified track from Rihanna’s upcoming Rated R disc.

“It was like, ‘What?’ ” The challenge, he said, was how to cook up some verses that would help make a #1 hit in such a short time. Luckily, he had plenty of experience with working fast, thanks to the 30 minutes he said it took him to write his breakthrough hit, “Crank That.”

The pressure was not as intense when he got the call to guest on a track from Rihanna’s ex, Brown. “I got nothing but love for Chris, that’s my homeboy,” said Soulja of the singer, whose Graffiti will be his first release since his assault on Rihanna in February. “He called me up and he was like, ‘Yo, I need you on this song for my album. Will you come through?’ ”

The answer, of course, was yes — and the result is a tune titled “She’s Bad.”

“My approach to it was, if me and Chris Brown ever did a song together it got to be the best song ever,” he said. “When people hear it, it gotta be automatic, be in all the kids’ heads, all the girls definitely gotta love it, all the females gotta love it. That was my approach to it. I was just thinking, ‘What is the slickest lines I could say to a female to make them fall in love with this record?”

If there is one thing that this boy has is work ethic. He really gets his name out there and stays on his grind. If only he applied this same zeal to developing quality material for himself, he could become one of Hip-Hop’s heavyweights instead of being known as the ‘Ringtone King’. That’s a damn shame.

BET Awards 2009: Performances

BET awards 2009 logo BET Awards 2009: Performances

As many of you know, the BET Awards 2009 took place last night at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Long time readers will know that with the big award shows, That Grape Juice are at the forefront with live coverage and performance videos. However, with Michael’s passing really hitting me (and millions) to the core, the show kinda took a backseat in my mind, only regaining my interest when it began to be advertised as a Michael Jackson Tribute Show following The King of Pop’s sudden death. Check out the night’s performances below:

Brandy Hits The Studio With Pharrell

brandy+interview2 Brandy Hits The Studio With PharrellHaving completed her mini-promotional tour, which saw stops in select European cities as well as the US, Brandy is back in the studio to continue the recording of her 6th studio album. The latest to join the producers list is none other than Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes – as confirmed by Brandy herself on Twitter today. Williams joins an all-star list of writers and producers lined-up to work on the as-yet-untitled record, which includes Ne-Yo, Stargate, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart.
It appears Brandy and her team are sparing no expense when it comes to enlisting the best of the best to work on the album, following the commercial tanking of her last LP (her Epic Records debut and the criminally underrated) ‘Human’. Interestingly, the at-time-of-writing absence of past collaborators Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins and Timbaland suggests she’s looking to work with those she hasn’t worked with in the past.
As one of those who really enjoyed ‘Human’, yet understood the sad reality that such records don’t really enjoy chart success in today’s industry, I’m really salivating at the info known about this new project – top producers, more commercial sounding, yet the same high quality we’ve come to expect from Brandy. Word is we can expect the album in stores this Fall.

Soulja Boy: "Michael Jackson Inspired Me"

souljaboy21 Soulja Boy: "Michael Jackson Inspired Me"

In a recent interview with MTV, teen rapper Soulja Boy revealed Michael Jackson to be his inspiration:

“But as far as getting my inspiration for stage performance, it has always been Michael Jackson. I remember I watched the DVD … Michael Jackson came and stood onstage for 10 minutes. They was screaming the whole 10 minutes. I actually imitated that a couple of times in my show.” {Source}

LMAO! Honestly, I mean come on now…Soulja Boy and Michael Jackson should not even be mentioned in the same sentence, much less when talking stage presence or performance.

Soulja Boy Scores 2nd Top 10 Hit

souljaboy21 Soulja Boy Scores 2nd Top 10 Hit
Since the release of Soulja Boy’s surprise smash ‘Crank That’ back in 2007, the teen ‘rapper’ has had much difficulty in matching the success of the song – with many of his follow-up singles failing to chart.
That all changed this week, however, as the one-time, one-hit wonder, saw his current single ‘Kiss Me Thru The Phone (ft. Sammie)’ jump #17-#9 on the Billboard Hot 100; a jump caused primarily by a surge in iTunes downloads, where the track currently sits at #4.
As much as I think his music is trash, I can’t hate on the young man’s hustle. He’s been releasing track after track and doing show after show, so I guess it’s a reward of hard work – regardless of the quality of the work’s output.

New Song: Ciara – ‘Never Ever (ft. Young Jeezy)’

‘Never Ever’, the official first single to be lifted from Ciara’s forthcoming ‘Fantasy Ride’ LP, made it’s debut today, a day earlier than expected. The whimsical Polow Da Don produced cut, which samples Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes ‘If You Don’t Love Me By Now’, is a mid-tempo which I envision doing well at radio. However, as a first single, I’m kinda iffy on this one; it just doesn’t have that ‘ummph’ we’re used to hearing from Cici – especially as a lead single. Time will tell if it was the right choice going with this.
