Sugababes Perform ‘Get Sexy’ (With Jade) At Children In Need

The new-look Sugababes took to the stage at the BBC’s annual Children In Need special which aired last night. Amelle, Heidi and Jade gave their first live rendition of the Keisha-heavy ‘Get Sexy’, which to put it politely was passable at best. The vocals were a hot steaming mess – this coming from one who knows they can all sing. Their ‘About A Girl’ performance, which you can watch below, was marginally better, but still nothing to scream about. After watching this, it’s vividly clear that they need more time to gel as a group, because this was not the business.

Keisha: “Original Sugababes Not Reforming”

Sugababes 856494a Keisha: Original Sugababes Not Reforming

Former Sugababe Keisha Buchanan has quashed rumours that the original line-up of the controversial brand band are set to reform. Consistent of Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy, the trio burst on the scene in 2000 with the smash ‘Overload’.

Speaking of the rumours on her Twitter page literally moments ago, the 25 year old singer said:

“I’m not re-forming the sugababes. We’ve spoken & I’m pleased they’ve lent me their support & vice versa. But we’re 100% NOT reforming xxx”

Though a supporter of what the band used to stand for (Pop music that you were ‘allowed’ to like LOL), I’m definitely more eager to see what Ms. Buchanan serves up on her own. Her solo album, which she is recording as I type, drops next year via Island Records.

The Sugababes Perform ‘About A Girl’ On GMTV

Continuing along the promotional trail for their latest single ‘About A Girl’, the Sugababes stopped by GMTV this morning to perform the song. Unlike the stripped back version they performed on Radio 1 yesterday, this live showing saw the ladies move a lot more.
As mentioned yesterday, the Keisha scenario was the final ‘no-no’ as to taking the group that seriously, however with each performance of this song, it’s hard to deny they are actually doing a great job. I mean, yes the choreography was minimalist; but with it being the Sugababes that was kinda-sorta expected (though judging by this Jade really is the best dancer). Vocally, they were very solid. Great performance.

Tidbit: Jade was getting that choreography (though it wasn’t demanding). Watch her legs compared to the other two and you’ll see what I mean.

The Sugababes Perform ‘About A Girl’ On Live Lounge

Controversial Pop trio the Sugababes performed their new single ‘About A Girl’ for the first time with the new line-up on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge earlier today. Putting all the drama to one side, they actually did the damn thing with this rendition. Their individual vocals, as well their collective harmonies were oh-so-on-point. I’m not sure I’d ever be sold on them as a group any more (still finding it hard to forget Keisha-gate), however I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly warming to what they have on offer after watching this. Good stuff.

New Song: Sugababes – ‘Wear My Kiss (Jade Vocals)’ (3rd Single)

sugababes wear my kiss

The Sugababes premiered their brand new single ‘Wear My Kiss’ on BBC Radio 1 last night. Set to be the 3rd single to be lifted from their serially delayed LP ‘Sweet 7′, a Keisha-featured version of the song has been been floating around for some time. Yet this version features all new vocals from new member Jade.

Is the Fernando Garibay produced cut any good? In short, ‘yes’. However, I can’t help but feel the girl’s and their team are doing themselves a serious injustice by throwing out yet another Amelle-heavy single. Surely with Jade a) being the better vocalist and b) needing to be ’sold’ to the understandably cynical public, a more Jade-centred release would do more them more good.

Heidi Slams Sugababes Critics / Album Pushed Back Again!

550w_ca_sugababes_2 (1)

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, Sugababe Heidi Range hit back at those doubtful of the group’s chances of success following the ousting of orginal member Keisha Buchanan back in September. Range, 26, said:

“I don’t want to sound like I’m being bigheaded but the Sugababes had one album which didn’t sell and they were dropped,” she says, sounding not so much bigheaded as just plain mean. “I joined eight years ago and we were signed together by Island Records. I’ve been there since our first number one Freak Like Me and been part of the history of the band ever since. Amelle has been in the group for over four years and she’s been part of our biggest album as a group. I think it’s unfair. That’s not disrespecting what previous members have brought to the group, but we were signed as Sugababes to Island Records and I’m still signed to Island Records as Sugababes.” {Source}

Poor Heidi. She seems genuinely quite a sweet girl, something I can vouch for after interviewing the group back in August. However, it’s quite surprising why she’s failing to understand folk’s reasoning for being salty toward what’s left of the group. It comes down to principle; neither she or Amelle were there at the group’s inception, hence Keisha was the group’s sole shred of credibility. Ousting her left them with none. Ms. Heidi may have been there at the group’s most successful point, yet there would have been no group in the first place had it not been for Keisha et al.

The ‘Babes new LP ‘Sweet 7′ is now set for release March 8th. SMH…

Sugababes Push Back New LP To 2010

sugababes sweet 7

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for controversial UK girl group, the Sugababes. Following the mass outcry from both fans and the industry about the ousting of original member Keisha Buchanan, it has now been announced that their new LP ‘Sweet 7′ has been pushed back to February 22nd 2010. The album was originally scheduled for release November 23rd as a joint venture between Jay-Z’s Roc Nation and Island Records. While current single ‘About A Girl’ will still be released on November 9th, a third single in the form of ‘Wear My Kiss’ (which you can listen to by clicking here – it’s the Keisha version BTW) will be released February 8th. {Source}

How to say this politely? Hmm. If this isn’t a hot a** mess, I really don’t know what is. How embarrassing  must it be the ladies and their management to see their ill-advised decision blowing up in their faces for all to see. From a business standpoint, I can’t help but believe a December release would have made more sense (see: Christmas sales). But February? Surely it’d make sense to strike while the iron is hot and public interest is still there. With the whole Keisha drama simmering down now, and the fact that ‘About A Girl’ is looking to b a moderate hit at best, I can’t see how a February release will benefit them. Oh well, I guess we’ll have to wait to see how things pan out. In the meanwhile…

Sugababes Talk…Everything!

Heidi and Jade, two thirds of controversial trio, the Sugababes, recently sat down with In4merz to discuss pretty much everything (Amelle is resting off her ‘exhaustion’). Hence, posed to the ladies were questions about the group’s future, the fate of Jade’s solo material, their ironically titled ‘Sweet 7′ project and a whole lot more.

An interesting watch, yet a somewhat sad one, as the reality of what the group has become sunk in with every minute that passed during this interview (see: Jade’s talk of needing to ‘do her homework’ etc). Still, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious to see how things unfold with their ‘Sweet 7′ album.

Sugababes ‘Sweet 7′ Cover

sugababes sweet 7

Heidi, Amelle and Jade Ewen, known to some as the Sugababes, are pressing ahead with the release of the ‘brand’s’ 7th studio album, the ironically titled ‘Sweet 7′ (due November 23rd). Peep the official album cover above.

If you’re wondering why we’ve yet to see the girl’s doing any promo, their focal member Amelle Berrabah, is suffering from nervous exhaustion and is on a break until early November, when the group kick off their promo campaign. Word has it they are also recording many a new song for the album, so as to rid the record of much of ousted member Keisha Buchanan’s presence.

Sugababes – ‘About A Girl’ Video

Amelle, Heidi and Jade, also known – rightly or wrongly – as the Sugababes, unveiled the video for their new single ‘About a Girl’. The group, who have been at centre of much controversy as of late – almost entirely due to the ousting of original member Keisha Buchanan last month – hope to set the chart’s alight with this their new single. With a big budget (in UK terms) and a more sexed up image, the big question is: “does the video redeem them?”

In short, unfortunately, the answer is a no. Getting the good out of the way first; I’m definitely feeling the cinematic look of the clip, while the choreography was a great step forward for a group, who have really not been renown for that. However, I can’t help but feel this was a poor, rushed, badly edited clip. Clearly the stunt doubles were supposed to be reflective of the pre-Jade line-up, and though the ladies have since said the stunt company went ahead and shot their scenes while the drama was going on behind the scenes, there surely could have been more workable ways of using the footage. It really seems as if the label paid a hefty sum to the stunt company and come hell or high water were going to get their money’s worth – regardless of whether the vid seemed random as hell. I mean for someone not in the know of what’s happened, they’d  likely sit there wondering why in one shot we are seeing muscle-y chicks (ala WWF/E’s Chyna) and in the next, a random dance routine by the group who look nothing like them. For all the £££$$$ thrown at this, the aforementioned makes it come off cheap and tacky.

While I never wish any one bad, I can’t help but feel a little pessemistic about the group’s future. They needed to knock the ball out of the park with this video, which IMO had what’s left of their reputation on the line, and I don’t feel they did.

Video: Sugababes On Set Of New Video

Peep this video of the latest line-up of the Sugababes on the set of the video for their new single ‘About A Girl’, which was shot two weeks ago in Los Angeles.

While, like most, I’m dead-set against the notion of a Keisha-less Sugababes, I’d be fronting if I didn’t say new member Jade Ewen was giving me ‘di-vah!’ in the above clip; she was working it! I actually feel she’s been placed in a group where she’s head and shoulders more talented than the other members; as a powerhouse vocalist and a trained dancer (something neither Heidi or Amelle can boast of; see ‘Get Sexy’ video) Jade, if their management has any sense left (very doubtful), should be pushed to the forefront as the unofficial ‘leader’ of the group. I won’t hold me breath, though. I envision Amelle being pushed to the front, which I’m sure will further infuriate those still p*ssed about Keisha’s departure. After all, how can the newest member of the group, who wasn’t there at their conception or even peak, be sold as the face of the group. Errr…no love.

Ne-Yo Desperate To Work With Ex-Sugababe Keisha

Sugababe Keisha Buchanan

With the UK music industry still in shock over the departure of Keisha Buchanan from country’s biggest girl group, the Sugababes, new reports are suggesting the industry’s top hitmakers are lining up to work with the talented vocalist, particularly Ne-Yo:

Having been humiliated after she was forced out of the Sugababes, Keisha Buchanan may soon have the last laugh — R&B star Ne-Yo is desperate to work with her.

We can reveal that the US singer, 29, who has written hits for Beyoncé, Rihanna and Leona Lewis, contacted Keisha about working on material for her solo career.

Earlier this week, the 24-year-old singer, the last original member of the group, announced she had been forced to leave. Keisha has now been replaced by Eurovision runner-up Jade Ewen.A source told us: “Keisha has known Ne-Yo for a few years. They are close friends and have worked together on Sugababes material. So when he heard she had left the group he contacted her and told her he wants to work with her. Keisha is also good friends with Jermaine Riley from FDM, who is signed to Ne-Yo’s label. When he heard of the split he told her to call him as he had some big news.”

Mutya Buena, 24, an original Sugababe who left in 2005, has hinted she would like the founding line-up — which included Siobhan Donaghy — to reform. The source added: “Mutya is keen on the old line-up getting back together, but Keisha wants to try to make it solo and she thinks Ne-Yo is the perfect guy for the job.”

Speculation over the Sugababe split led to rumours that Keisha was bullying the other members, a claim she fiercely denies. Today Sugababe Amelle Berrabah, 25, said: “Problems started in the last few months, but it was a long time coming.”  {Source}

I’m definitely hoping this is true; ever since news broke that Keisha had been ousted, yet has a solo deal, I’ve been sizing up the prospects of her solo LP. While some may be sceptical of her chances as a solo artist, I must say I’m very optimistic. As well as her undeniable talent, Keisha has also done a great job over the years of networking with her industry peers, hence if handled correctly and given the opportunity to work with the best (which I’m sure her label Island wouldn’t say no to, particularly in the case of Ne-Yo), she could really be a force and, as the article suggests, have the last laugh. Definitely looking forward to this project…

New Song: Sugababes – About A Girl (w/ Jade Ewen) / Plus Interview Discussing New Line-Up

Sugababes and Jade

Amidst all the drama surrounding the Sugababes, the group visited BBC Radio 1 yesterday to premiere the new version of their latest single, the Red One produced ‘About A Girl’, with new vocals by their latest addition Jade Ewen.

Without slinging mud Jade’s way, I must say, I prefer Keisha’s version by a mile. Something about this re-recorded version conveys a generic and rushed aura. Take a listen to each version, and let us know which you prefer:

Keisha’s version:

Jade’s version:

In other Sugababes news, check out their interview with Radio 1’s Scott Mills yesterday, in which they discuss Keisha’s departure and more.

Part 1

Part 2

While Jade came across well, I can’t say the same about Amelle and Heidi. If either were as media-trained as they should be at this time, they would have ascertained that it is not in their best interest to come across defiant or nonchalant about the past week’s events (especially Amelle); as, regardless of what was popping off behind-the-scenes, Keisha essentially was the Sugababes and should never have been booted. To think two people who weren’t even there at the group’s conception are the one’s lobbying for her ejection is disgusting. We don’t know what went on behind the scenes, yet if it was that volatile, surely the group could have just disbanded with their credibility in-tact – after this album. Instead, they are largely considered a joke by most now, and will have the utmost of up-hill struggles trying to claw back any notion of respect they once had. IMO, Heidi and Amelle seem so comfortable in the group, so much so that forcibly ousting the founding (and let’s be realistic, most talented) member was the only way forward. Heidi mentioned that she had to make the right decision, yet anyone with half-a-braincell (which makes me wonder about their management too) would have foreseen the backlash they’d receive after all this and let that factor into making such a decision. It’s actually all quite a shame, as – take away the group’s history etc – the current line-up do look great and, if  they were a new group, would actually stand quite a chance (particularly as we don’t have anything like them in the UK). However, the reality is that poor Jade has been thrust into a pretty sh*tty situation and it feels as if the group’s days are numbered.SMH….

The ‘New’ Sugababes Shoot Rauchy Video In LA

The latest incarnation of controversial group the Sugababes filmed the video for their new single ‘About A Girl’. Judging by these pics, it looks like new girl Jade Ewen will feature quite prominently in this one.
This whole situation doesn’t sit well with me at all. SMH. Check out a full report via the Daily Mail on the latest on the group after the pics…

445f7a29b89c4455bf7665e8afa812ae The New Sugababes Shoot Rauchy Video In LA8e8378fd832f85e55c5c19ee8f1d42ce The New Sugababes Shoot Rauchy Video In LA1bd0838c652ec71a380b05285ac0d0d2 The New Sugababes Shoot Rauchy Video In LA71e5d188c484541592c2aa0ea9cc4495 The New Sugababes Shoot Rauchy Video In LA

These are the pictures that will break axed Sugababe Keisha Buchanan’s heart.
Dressed in sexy bondage-inspired outfits, her former bandmates Amelle Berrabah and Heidi Range and her replacement Jade Ewen were spotted shooting the raunchy video for their next single About A Girl.
Hours after announcing the news on Twitter, the 24-year-old headed out to the Red Bull Fashion Factory party in London on Monday night.
But after attempting to put on a brave face, she was reduced to tears in the middle of the party and had to be comforted by Oritse Williams of JLS.
Just two weeks ago, at a gig in London’s Movida, Keisha talked exclusively to MailOnline about how she had been preparing to shoot the new video, which was being filmed yesterday without her in the Santa Clarita desert just outside of LA.
The founding member of the group revealed she had given up junk food and her love of KFC to get in shape to shoot the song, produced by RedOne who has also worked with Lady Gaga.
It was on that night that rumours of a rift between the girls surfaced after Amelle failed to show up, leaving Keisha and Heidi to sing as a duo.
At the time Keisha said Amelle’s no-show was down to a close friend of hers being involved in a car crash.
But the rumour mill went into overdrive and just days later reports suggested that Amelle had quit the group following a bust-up with Keisha.
According to reports, the Sugababes’ management had this week been auditioning new members behind Keisha’s back and re-recording her vocals which feature on the group’s upcoming album Sweet 7.
It is expectedly to be hastily re-worked with Jade’s vocals before its release on November 23.
Reports in today’s Sun newspaper also suggest that Heidi was the chief plotter behind the events which tore the band apart.
The publication claimed the 26-year-old brokered a secret deal with Amelle, 25, to see off Keisha over fears her headstrong nature could cause problems as they promoted their music Stateside.
A source told the newspaper: ‘Keisha clashed with Amelle since she joined. Heidi did not want to be in a position where a big bust-up might arise while they’re promoting their material Stateside.
‘So she persuaded management a less headstrong character would be better suited to the group.’
Speaking of Keisha’s breakdown on Monday night, a source at the London Fashion Week party, in New Oxford Street, said: ‘Michelle Williams [of Destiny’s Child] was the first to share words of encouragement.
‘But it all got too much for Keisha, who started to cry in the middle of the party and Oritse from JLS had to comfort her.
‘It was heartbreaking. She felt devastated about what happened and thinks everyone thinks she’s a b***h when she did everything she could to make it work between her and Heidi and Amelle.’
Keisha’s Sugababe replacement, 21-year-old Jade Ewen, was poached from her own record label a week ago, despite releasing her single My Man only yesterday. Jade will join Amelle and Heidi Range.

A source said: ‘Jade was approached by the Sugababes’ record label Island last week and pretty much bundled onto a plane to LA on the same day, where they were shooting the next video.’

Jade represented the UK in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, singing My Time. The source added: ‘Her profile’s pretty big since Eurovision, but she felt she couldn’t say no.

‘Her own record label didn’t even know she had gone, so were getting panicky.’
Posting a message on Twitter, Buchanan, who has been in the band for 11 years, said: ‘Although it was not my choice to leave, it’s time to enter a new chapter in my life.’

Hot.Ass.Mess.
