The latest line-up of the Sugababes assert their ‘Freedom’ on their first original single with new member Jade Ewen.

Due for release on September 19th, the empowering track is also the ladies first offering on new label RCA (Sony Music).

Arguably the group’s last crack at being taken seriously, it begs the question: does the song do what it needs to? The answer awaits after the jump…

The latest line-up of the Sugababes assert their ‘Freedom’ on the first single to be lifted from the forthcoming Sony Music debut.

Despite already performing the song recently at T4 On The Beach, the studio version of the track is still M.I.A (a fact no doubt attributable to its ‘official’ release being almost two months away).

Perhaps in a bid to tide fans over, a lengthy snippet of the track has been released. Take a listen to what Amelle, Heidi, and Jade are serving up as their first original single below…

It looks like Mariah Carey’s Photoshopper has gone global – if this new Sugababes promotional pic is anything to go by.

For, while looking great, the trio (especially Heidi) look almost unrecognisable. That said, Jade (centre) does look stunning, though.

The ladies are gearing up for the release of their brand new single ‘Freedom’. As reported, the song and the album it’s lifted from are set to be released via Sony Music, after the group were dropped mutually agreed to part ways with longtime label Island/Universal Music.

In what will inevitably be billed as a “mutual decision”, it has been announced that the Sugababes are no longer with longtime label Island/Universal Music.

Fans of the controversial trio needn’t stress, however. For Heidi, Amelle, and Jade have already signed with another label.

New Song: Sugababes – ‘Freedom’ (Snippet)

sugababes 341 e1306878328635 New Song: Sugababes Freedom (Snippet)

It’s been almost two years since the Sugababes released new material. Yet -in a bid to reclaim chart glory – the ladies are back. Well at least the remnants of them…

Indeed, after unceremoniously ousting founding member Keisha Buchanan in 2009, the group has been anchored by Amelle Berrabah, Heidi Range and Jade  Ewen. Hoping to make a bigger impact than their dismal selling ‘Sweet 7′ LP, the latest line-up serve up new single ‘Freedom’.

Set to premiere any day now, the ‘empowering’ number surfaced in snippet form via Nokia a moments ago.

Get a flavour of the trio’s first offering of original material below…

Hot Shots: Sugababes Resurface At Soap Awards

sugababes12 Hot Shots: Sugababes Resurface At Soap Awards

Since the chart disaster that was ‘Sweet 7′, (what’s left of) the Sugababes have kept a relatively low profile.

Indeed Heidi, Amelle, and Jade had seemingly bowed out of the limelight, after the mass outcry which followed their ridding the group of its last founding member Keisha Buchanan.

However, amidst reports that the trio are putting the finishing touches to their new LP, the ladies made their first collective appearance in some time at the British Soap Awards in London last week. They attended the event to support Jade’s longtime boyfriend, Ricky Norwood (“Fatboy” of Eastenders fame).

The group’s new Thundercats produced single is slated to debut soon.

——————————-

One has to wonder why the group, label, or management are even bothering at this point. To date, ‘Sweet 7′ has sold a dismal 25,000 copies – which in itself should serve as an indicator of current pubic interest in this farce of a line-up. I mean, even pre-Keisha-gate, sales for the ‘Babes were not the jam (see: Catfights & Spotlights). It’s like trying to fix the Titanic. It’s still going to sink.

Hot Shot: Sugababes Launch New Fragrance

sugababes fragrance Hot Shot: Sugababes Launch New Fragrance

In somewhat of a surprising move, the Sugababes have launched a new line of fragrances. Aptly titled ‘Sugababes by the Sugababes’, the range boasts three distinctive scents…‘Tempt’, ‘Tease’, and ‘Touch’.

Riddle me this: how, when the group’s name is tarnished beyond repair, do they expect to flog these cheap perfumes? Folk wouldn’t buy your album, why would they want to smell like you? Random.

Sugababes Begin Work On New Album

sugababes xmas Sugababes Begin Work On New Album

Despite the epic flop that was their ‘Sweet 7′ LP, the Sugababes have returned to the studio to begin work on their next studio album. Speaking to NOW Magazine, the ladies manager, Mark Hargreaves, revealed the news, adding:

“They’re a very happy group today. They can’t wait to get back into the studio and bring back that feel good factor.”

Assuring fans that things are on the up for the group, Hargreaves also confirmed that the ‘Babe’s 2008 hit ‘Girls’ will be re-recorded to include new member Jade Ewen’s vocals. The revamped version will be used for a US advertising campaign by department store JC Penney.

PR spin at its best, ay? Unfortunately, it’s likely to be in vein. After all, with a tainted reputation and abysmal sales, the public have spoken loud and clear on their take on what’s left of the group. How this same public are supposed to be enthused or lap-up news of new material is kinda baffling.

That said, this is the music industry, and stranger things than a Sugababes comeback have happened.

Sugababes Look To Sean Kingston To Save ‘Sweet 7′

sugababes xmas Sugababes Look To Sean Kingston To Save Sweet 7

With the Sugababes‘Sweet 7′ project in turmoil, the ladies are looking to their collaboration with rapper Sean Kingston ,’Miss Everything’, in a last ditch effort to revive the album’s sales. The song, as confirmed by Radio 1, will serve as the official next single from the record.

Though a little pessimistic upon hearing Sean Kingston’s name, The Smeezingtons-produced track is one of the album’s finer moments; hence is by no means a bad single pick (although why ‘She’s A Mess’ is consistently being overlooked is beyond me). Unfortunately for the ladies, though, it’s appearing that with each passing day, their time legitimately looks to be up. Whether the release of ‘Miss Everything’ changes that will be interesting to see. I won’t hold my breath, though.

Ex-Sugababe To Sign With Jay-Z’s Roc Nation?

kesiha roc nation Ex Sugababe To Sign With Jay Zs Roc Nation?

As the Sugababes today confirm our report that they have ceased working with Roc Nation (aka were dropped), fresh reports have emerged today suggesting that ousted member Keisha Buchanan is on the brink of signing with the Jay-Z-owned firm for her solo project.

Buchanan and the rapper are said to have hit it off at the BRITS after-party last month, with Roc Nation set to formally meet with the 25 year old during her current trip to Los Angeles for the recording of her solo LP.

Should such a deal be finalised, it would ironically be exactly the same deal Buchanan entered into as part of the group – which would see her record label remain Universal Island, while Roc Nation would, essentially, A&R/produce the project.

How the tables have turned!

—————————————————————-

Karma really is serving it up! Granted we don’t actually know what went on behind the scenes, for many it simply boils down to principle – you can not dispose of the last original component of a group and expect credibility or support to remain. It just doesn’t work like that. How any label or management team failed to foresee this back in September is anyone’s guess. I mean, prior to Keisha’s album even coming out, the group are being forced to eat some serious humble-pie, with ‘Sweet 7′ belly-flopping and public support and interest at an all-time low.

About the Roc Nation deal; it’s definitely understandable as to why they are actively seeking out Keisha. It is no secret that for many years she was the creative force behind the Sugababes, particularly with the last line-up. Hence, common-knowledge was the fact that she’d often be the first and last at the studio, co-wrote many of their hits, and enjoyed great relationships with several producers – a number of which, reportedly, refused to begin work with the other ladies until Keisha arrived at the studio.

One can only hope that Keisha really serves up the hotness with her solo project and is successful; which if she manages to pull off, will be one of the biggest stories in recent UK music history.
