Girlicious Update

glicious Girlicious Update Since being revealed as the the winners of ‘The Pussycat Dolls Present Girlicious’ back in April, Girlicious have seldom been seen promoting their single ‘Like Me’ or self-titled LP, save for a few TV appearances here and there.

Things, however, seem to be picking up with their project, as their album will now be released on August 12th in Canada (originally due this month). You may be thinking, why Canada? Well, the girls have experienced the most success there to date, with ‘Like Me’ peaking at #4 on Canada’s official single chart and buzz single ‘Stupid Sh*t’ at #20. A US/International release is tentatively listed as simply ’2008′.

It’ll be interesting to see if this project actually makes any kind of impact on a larger scale (other than Canada alone). For, multi-tiered releases are becoming a thing of the past, and the few that do tend to end up performing badly in the territory that received it late (See: The UK chart performance of Mary J’s ‘Growing Pains’). Also, does anyone else find it baffling that the group’s project is being launched at the same time as the Pussycat Dolls’?

The Best You Never Heard: JoJo, Teedra Moses, Tamia & Michael Jackson

best+u+never+heard345 The Best You Never Heard: JoJo, Teedra Moses, Tamia & Michael Jackson

This week’s edition of ‘The Best You Never Heard’ serves up songs by teen star JoJo, Teedra Moses, Tamia and the King of Pop Michael Jackson. Drop me your suggestions for future installments at sam@thatgrapejuice.net

JoJo – The Way You Do Me

JoJo’s 2006 effort ‘The High Road’ saw the teen star embrace a more Urban-inspired sound; one of the standout examples of this was the Swizz Beats (yes, Swizz Beats) produced ‘The Way You Do Me’. Now, depending on how you wish to interpret the song’s lyrical content, it can be considered somewhat risque – especially taking into account her age. Saying that, there’s no denying this one’s a banger

Teedra Moses – You Better Tell Her

Songstress Teedra Moses has been steadily building up an army of loyal followers since the release of her critically acclaimed LP ‘Complex Simplicity’ back in 2006. Indeed the former stylist-to-the-stars served up one of that year’s most solid efforts IMO. Filled with great cut after great cut, ‘You Better Tell Her’ stands as one of my personal favourites.

Tamia – Too Grown For That

Lifted from Tamia’s most recent album ‘Between Friends’, the Darkchild produced ‘Too Grown For That’ makes this week’s edition for a number of reasons. Aside from the fact that it’s one of the album’s most solid tracks, the uptempo, club-ready production is a welcome departure from her traditional (mid-tempo/ballad) forte. A true testament to Tamia’s versatility as an artist.

Michael Jackson – We’ve Had Enough

Taken from Michael’s 2004 greatest hits set ‘ The Ultimate Collection’, the previously unreleased ‘We’ve Had Enough’ shows that the King of Pop is still at the top of his game. This rousing track is very much in the vein of Michael’s worldwide hit ‘Earth Song’. Laced with enough ‘Michaelisms’ to echo the ‘glory days’, this one is a winner.

Akon Charged In Fan-Tossing Incident

akon460 Akon Charged In Fan Tossing Incident R&B singer Akon is set to be charged in connecton to the much-publicized fan-tossing incident back in June. Check out the report via PEOPLE magazine:
The YouTube clip of Akon tossing a 15-year-old fan into the crowd of a concert has come back to haunt him: Police are slapping the hip-hop star with criminal charges after a fan said she suffered a concussion in the incident.

Akon is due in a Fishkill, N.Y., courtroom Monday to be arraigned on misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree harassment, the Associated Press reports.

During the June concert, Akon threw the audience member from the stage into the crowd. According to AP, the boy landed on another fan, Abby Rosa, who told the Poughkeepsie Journal that she suffered a concussion.

There was no immediate comment from Akon’s camp.

I’m glad. It’s about time some of these artists started taking responsibility for their actions and, by that, I don’t mean making wack ‘Sorry’ songs.

Tamia – ‘Me’ Video

R&B Tamia singer Tamia has finally premiered the video for her latest single ‘Me’. It’s been some time since her last video ‘Can’t Get Enough’ debuted and a follow-up was long-overdue. The video for ‘Me’ is great; it plays on the concept of the beautiful ballad- a reaffirming ode to loving yourself. Tamia, who is 6 months pregnant, looks stunning too.

What do you think of the video?

Tamia Performs On The Orange Lounge

tamia Tamia Performs On The Orange Lounge R&B singer Tamia recently performed a set for MSN Canada at the Orange Lounge in Toronto. The singer, who is six months pregnant, gave near-flawless renditions of some of her hits including ‘Officially Missing You’ and ‘Can’t Get Enough’. I have her most recent album ‘Between Friends’ on constant rotation, so it was great to see some of the tracks performed live. Real R&B at it’s best. Check it out…
