Timbaland To Produce New Jay-Z LP; Say’s "It’ll Be A Monster"

jay+jay 23 Timbaland To Produce New Jay Z LP; Says "Itll Be A Monster"Hit-maker of the moment Timbaland recently spoke with MTV about the Jay-Z’s forthcoming album, which he has been appointed executive producer:

“He wants me to do the whole thing this time around,” Timbaland said Monday during a visit to the MTV News office. “I’mma make it a classic too. You better believe it. It’ll be a monster! I always say this: You get a first single from me, I’mma get you up to gold. And it’s hard to get you up to gold in this day [and age].”

Tim insisted that an LP featuring him and Jay would sell more than the 500,000 copies needed for a gold record, as they’re both international platinum artists.

“Jay should never chill,” he said about the rapper’s decision to return to music full time. “We had a long talk, and I really talked to him. Jay-Z does it for the love. That’s different. When somebody does it for the love, you don’t stop. He has everything, but he’s still current. A million people are buying his album regardless.

“We wanna go to the world,” he added. “The world is ‘Big Pimpin’.’ ‘Big Pimpin’ ‘ is an international hit, so we wanna do 10 of those. Meaning, some of the songs gonna sound like M.I.A. would rap on some of the beats. You gonna be like, ‘Whoa!’ But it’s Jay on ‘em. That means it reaches everywhere. I’mma have songs with bagpipes. The music is gonna be so worldwide, he’ll be able to tour the rest of his life, maybe, off just this one album. The Jay-Z album is gonna be phenomenal. You know why? We don’t care. We’re doing great music just to do it. We doing it for our fans who love us to say we ain’t quit. I’m doing it ’cause that’s my homeboy.”

Though I’m feeling the whole ‘everyone jumping on the Timbaland bandwagon’ thing is becoming a lil’ tiresome, I’m pretty interested to see what he’ll deliver for Jay. After that faux retirement and the so-so ‘Kingdom Come’ LP, Jay has staged a great return to form with the release of last year’s ‘American Gangster’ and successful tours. Here’s hoping this new album continues the trend.

The Best You Never Heard: Ciara, Ne-Yo, Sugababes & Timbaland

best+u+never+july+2223 The Best You Never Heard: Ciara, Ne Yo, Sugababes & TimbalandThe Best You Never Heard returns this week featuring lesser known cuts by Ciara, Ne-Yo, the Sugababes and hit-maker Timbaland. Do you have any suggestions for future instalments? Drop me an email at sam@thatgrapejuice.net

Ciara – So Hard

As I’ve detailed in the past, Ciara’s 2006 sophomore effort ‘The Evolution’ was indeed pretty solid, yet offered little in the way of what its title declared – evolution (from her first LP). That said, one of the album’s definite standout cuts was the Bryan Michael-Cox produced ‘So Hard’. Reminiscent of Cox’s now trademark ‘Crunk Ballad’ sound, the track IMO is right up there with the brilliance that is ‘Promise’. What Ciara lacks in vocal prowess, is compensated by the sheer emotion the song evokes. In simpler terms (lol), you both feel and believe what she’s singing. A must listen.

Listen: So Hard

Ne-Yo – Make It Work

Lifted from Ne-Yo’s 2007 effort ‘Because of You’, ‘Make It Work’ is all that we have to expect from a top notch ‘Ne-Yo’ track. Laced with lush harmonies and a killer hook, the song IMO would have made for a great single; something I’m pretty perplexed didn’t occur, considering it really was a smash hit just waiting to happen.

Sugababes – Freak Like Me

Undeniably the UK’s biggest and most talented girl group (I did say ‘talented’, so no Girls Aloud included lol), the Sugababes were able to secure such a position no doubt in part to the success of their 2002 hit ‘Freak Like Me’. A more edgier, rock-tinged (yet still Urban) spin on the Adina Howard classic, the track served as the ladies first #1 and remained at the top for four straight weeks. Good stuff.

Timbaland – Fantasy (ft. Money)

Following Timbaland’s return to prominence in 2006 as a producer on major releases by the likes of Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake, the hit-maker also asserted his place in the contemporary industry with the release of his 2007 LP ‘Shock Value’. Featuring many a collabo, it was ‘Fantasy’, sung by the relatively unknown Universal/Blackground artist Money, that was one of my personal favourites from the slightly overrated album. With its sensual, whimsical sound, the track is a slickly produced and solidly performed cut.

New Song: Keri Hilson – ‘Kiss Me (Return The Favour) (ft. Timbaland)’ (Snippet)

keri+hilson+2345 New Song: Keri Hilson Kiss Me (Return The Favour) (ft. Timbaland) (Snippet) As singer/songwriter Keri Hilson continues to prep the release of her long-awaited debut ‘In A Perfect World’ (due in September), a snippet of ‘Kiss Me (Return The Favour) – a cut from the LP – has surfaced. Produced and featuring a feature from mentor Timbaland, the track is one of the better cuts I’ve heard from Keri thus far. Definitely has me anticipating ‘In A Perfect World’ all the more.

Omarion Signs With Timbaland’s Label

Omarion1200427436temp Omarion Signs With Timbalands LabelIt has been confirmed that following his departure from Sony earlier this year, R&B singer Omarion has signed with hit-maker Timbaland’s record label – Mosley Music Group – an off-shoot of Interscope Records.
The former B2K leader’s debut for the label, his third studio album overall, is slated for release before the end of the year with Timbaland serving as its executive producer. Keri Hilson as well as Justin Timberlake have also been lined up to feature on the project.
Speaking about the new album and label home, the 23 year old said:

“I’m really excited about this project. Timbaland is like family to me, so it’s always great to work with family and I think this is going to be my best album yet. I’m happy to call Mosley Music Group my new home.” {Source}

Here’s hoping things work out for the better this go round. I’ve never doubted Omarion’s talent; I do, however, wonder if he has what it takes to stand out among the Chris Brown’s and Usher’s that dominate his field.

Timbaland Ties The Knot

timbaland+and+wife Timbaland Ties The KnotHit-maker Timbaland and his girlfriend, music exec Monique Idlett, have tied the knot, according to US Magazine:

The two wed — in their sweats! — in Virginia on Tuesday by a family pastor.

They are getting hitched again in a formal ceremony in Aruba on June 22.

The couple, who are based in Miami, welcomed a baby girl, Reign, last year. (He also has a son from a previous relationship.) He popped the question at Idlett’s baby shower.

Congratulations to Timbo and Monique.

Christina: "I Would Never Work With Timbaland"

ChristinaAguilera 04 big Christina: "I Would Never Work With Timbaland"Pop star Christina recently spoke on the direction of her fourth studio album (due in the Fall), insisting that the LP would not follow trends:

“This record is going to be very different from my previous record ‘Back To Basics.’ I’m working with a lot of different people so it’s a little hard for me to really go for a specific theme this time around, but I can assure you that it’s going to be a very very interesting record. Am I nervous? Of course but I’m also very excited. I never like to play it safe so it’s always a little risky to release a record that doesn’t sound like everything else out there. I mean, I love Timbaland’s music for example but I would never work with people like that because everyone else is doing it already” {Source}

It’s great to see Christina not jumping on the Timbaland bandwagon. Granted he’s undeniably one today’s top hit makers, his ‘sound’ is becoming increasingly dated IMO. I’m kinda hoping Christina keeps pushing boundaries, yet also sticks with a tried and tested direction; as that ‘Back To Basics’ record, though not the pits, was certainly several steps back from the solidness that was ‘Stripped’.

New Song: Madonna – 4 Minutes To Save The World (ft. Timbaland & Justin Timberlake)

72013333zl4 New Song: Madonna 4 Minutes To Save The World (ft. Timbaland & Justin Timberlake)As I’ve said before, it’s not often you see Madonna around these sides. Yet her foray into the world of Urban of music (again), this time with the assistance of Timbaland & Justin Timberlake, is newsworthy in itself. A clip of the first single to be lifted from her forthcoming album ‘Hard Candy’ (due April 29th) ’4 Minutes To Save The World’, surfaced earlier this month, however the full version premiered on French radio today.
What can I say? She brought ‘it’ and then some! The production on the uptempo track is arguably Timbo’s best in years and both Madonna & Justin ride the beat with ease. I’m still thinking to myself as I type, can this really be a Madonna track?! The hook heavy track is certain to be a smash IMO.

Madonna – ’4 Minutes To Save The World’ (ft. Timbaland & Justin Timberlake) (Snippet)

madge7 Madonna 4 Minutes To Save The World (ft. Timbaland & Justin Timberlake) (Snippet) Yes, I know it’s not everyday you see Madonna around these sides. However, upon the news that the 49 year old superstar would be working with hit-maker Timbaland for her forthcoming album, many in the Urban circles are anticipating what the pair come up with.
The first single from the as-yet-untitled album (due in April) is apparently this track, ’4 Minutes To Save The World’ – which was produced and featured in by Timbo as well as Justin Timberlake. Judging by this very short clip, the track sounds like a hit, I can’t even deny it.
