To celebrate the release of Tyler Perry’s ‘For Colored Girls’, the ensemble cast grace not one, but two special edition covers of Essence magazine.
The ladies, led by the likes of Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, and Kerry Washington, feature on one cover; while Perry, Michael Ealy, among others, pose it up with the male members of the cast on another.
‘For Colored Girls’ hits theatres in the US on November 5th and in the UK on December 10th.
In move that has stunned many, Mariah Carey has canceled her role in the upcoming Tyler Perry film ‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf’ which also features Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg and Macy Gray among others. The diva gave no reason for her sudden departure from the project but her spokesperson, Cindi Berger, said to the press that she is “not at liberty to discuss [Carey's] personal life at this time.” This news has fueled speculation that Carey has finally managed to get pregnant; something she has been reportedly struggling to do since later 2009. {Source}
Check out Janet Jackson’s recent promotional appearance on ‘The Graham Norton Show’. The megastar, along with close friend and director Tyler Perry, was featured on the programme to promote their new film, ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?’. The footage can be seen below:
It appears the weighty promotional campaign for Tyler Perry’s ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?’ has paid off rather handsomely. Since the movie’s debut four days ago (April 2nd), it has grossed $30,150,000 – besting the first film’s debut box office sum by more than $10 million.
Originally a shoe-in for the top spot, the movie debuted at #2 behind ‘Clash of the Titans’, which rocketed to #1 after grossing a whopping $61,400,000 during the same period.
The real success story, however, is undeniably ‘Married’. For, with its $20 million production budget, the movie has – in its first week of release – recouped all of that sum as well as made a profit of $10 million!
Perry is set to shift his attention to his latest project, the movie adaptation of the book ‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf’. The film, which will star Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, and Phylicia Rashad, begins filming in June, and will be released next January.
Randomness: Did you know the reason countries such as the UK don’t ever get the chance to see any of Perry’s films (and films like them) is because the movie studios -quote-on-quote – “don’t feel there is a market for them”. SMH…
Our good friends over at AOL Black Voices attended the premiere of Tyler Perry’s ‘Why Did I Get Married Too’ yesterday. While, there the ever-reliable outlet nabbed an exclusive from Perry regarding his latest movie – ‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf (Editor: Yes, that really is the title).
Perhaps most interesting about the announcement, was Perry’s confirmation of the film’s cast – which is stellar to say the very least. Appearing in the movie will be…Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine and Macy Gray. Find out all about the movie, via AOL, after the jump…
The trailer for Tyler Perry’s ‘Why Did I Get Married Too’ aired on Entertainment Tonight a few moments ago. Once again starring Janet Jackson, the sequel to 2007′s box office smash ‘Why Did I Get Married’ is set to be released April 2010. The trailer looks off the charts!
Interesting to note, Janet was on the set of the movie when she learned of her brother Michael’s passing back in June. She returned to filming a few weeks later, so I’d imagine this one will see an emotionally charged performance from Ms. Jackson (and the rest of the cast). Definitely looking forward to this.
LOL. I guess someone has an album to plug. This PR/marketing stunt is so transparent it’s a joke. Baring in mind he is still in ‘one-hit wonder’ territory, it makes me wonder who these supposed ‘fans’ are. I mean, does anyone still even do the ‘Crank That’?
That said, maybe I should stop going in on the boy; label-influenced or not, more ‘positive’ message music is always a welcome contribution to the industry…
Or maybe not LOL…

Ne-Yo recent sat down with Essence magazine to discuss a number of things including the gay rumors that he’s been dodging since debuting, as well as the recent drama with R. Kelly. Check out the extract below:
On The Gay Rumors
Honestly, when I first heard that there were rumors out there about me being gay I thought, Wow someone must really hate me. There’s nothing wrong with being gay, but I just couldn’t understand why someone would make up lies like that. I remember speaking to Jay-Z about it and he was like, ‘Look, man you haven’t made it until someone says you’re gay.”Okay, so because I can respect a woman’s shoe game, and not to mention that I’ve bought a few pairs of shoes in the past for the women in my life, that makes me gay? That’s hilarious.”
On R. Kelly ‘Beef’:
I don’t hate R. Kelly. There won’t be no diss records—we don’t do that in R&B. Seriously, I looked up to R. Kelly as an artist, and still do, but I don’t have respect for him as a man. I was happy to join the tour. I’m a man, so I don’t disrespect other men. I would still be open to talk to him. But his not coming to me directly was blatant disrespect, because he didn’t even view me as someone important enough to show respect to by talking to me man-to-man. If you have issues with me, then be man enough to come to me personally, but instead he had his people do it and then they said it wasn’t him but that the promoters asked me to be removed from the tour and that’s b—sh–.
