Rihanna – ‘Russian Roulette’/'Hard (Ft. Young Jeezy)’/'Rude Boy’
Literally moments ago, Covergirl model Rihanna debuted the video for her new single, ‘Hard’. The clip was directed by Melina and features rapper Young Jeezy. To date, the song has peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100.
This is quite a spectacle! The outfits, the glamour, the guns and the swagger, all tied together with on point editing, created one of the best videos put forward by the aspiring singer. The concept behind the flick suits the lyrics well and Rihanna certainly brought the fire to the set. This is certainly a great look for her to kick off the new year.
Wow, it really does seem like Rihanna overload today. Just as a the official tracklist of her ‘Rated R’ LP was unveiled, a new cut from the album, the Young Jeezy assisted ‘Hard’ surfaced. Is it any good though?
Admittedly this is perhaps the best track I’ve heard from the album thus far. Saying that, that’s not particularly a difficult feat to achieve. Sticking to its good points, though, the beat goes hard (no pun intended) and Ms. Fenty’s swagger (however unjustified that is is) rides the production quite effortlessly during the verses – in the process making her irritatingly nasal vocals (on the repetitive and lyrically empty chorus) that much more tolerable this go round. Why wasn’t this the first single?
Review in a bit…

As I’m sure many of you know, I had the pleasure of interviewing R&B star Ne-Yo here in London yesterday. Check out his exclusive shout-out to That Grape Juice above. Be on the look-out for the interview shortly.

The much anticipated video for Usher’s #1 smash ‘Love In The Club’ made its debut little over an hour ago. What can I say, other than it’s ON-POINT! Having seen the preview earlier this month, it appeared as if the clip would be a rehash of his 2004′s ‘Yeah’ vid, however the full vid proves otherwise. Considering the song’s subject-matter etc, I wasn’t really expecting the level of grandeur or thought put into the vid’s concept, but I’m pleasantly surprised. The concept, the choreography, the cameos (Diddy, Kanye and Keri Hilson)…I’m liking everything. ‘Love In The Club’ is lifted from Usher’s forthcoming album ‘Here I Stand’, which originally due in June, has been pushed up to May 27th.

As Fantasia’s ‘When I See U’ continues to dominate the Billboard R&B chart, a (proper) remix of the song has surfaced. Featuring producer Polow Da Don and Young Jeezy, this version of the track differs quite a bit to the original. Don’t be fooled by the faux-original start; when the remix beat kicks in it sounds like a totally different song – despite the same vocals being used. After a couple of listens, I’m liking this one.
