The ratings are in!
Hyped to the heavens, all eyes were naturally on how well ‘The Voice UK’ would deliver following its debut last night.
And yet deliver it did.

The BBC talent-search, which stars Jessie J, will.i.am, Danny O’Donoghue and Tom Jones as “coaches”, averaged 8.43m (37.6%) between 7pm and 8.20pm, peaking with 9.6m (42.3%) at 7.45pm. Figures which solidify the show’s status as a legitimate threat to Simon Cowell‘s strong-hold on the format.
Indeed, the numbers are only a stones-throw away from Britain’s Got Talent’s sixth series debut, which managed an impressive 9.43m.
Both show’s were backed by a multi-million pound media campaigns, which -in the case of The Voice-touted “vocals over everything”, while ‘Got Talent’ pushed the return of Simon Cowell to the judging panel.
Interestingly, The Voice debuted with a much higher audience than The X Factor in 2004 and Britain’s Got Talent in 2007.

Given the air of lackluster surrounding the X Factor as of late, it’s great to see another show do so well. For, while we feel the ‘X’ has some mileage left in it, nothing spurs greatness like good ol’ competition.

The Voice was alright, though I think it’s just like the X Factor without almighty Simon, long ad breaks and no joke acts. I’m gonna have to wait till the later stages to see if I like it better than the X Factor.
