As controversy goes, the fourth and final season of ‘The Boondocks’ served it up in earnest. Indeed, beyond being a relative snoozer (criminal after the near five-year wait), it also was the first season of the cult hit to not feature the involvement of creator Aaron McGruder – who was reportedly booted from his own show.

Undeterred, McGruder is back with ‘Black Jesus’, which is about…well…Black Jesus.

Set to debut on Adult Swim on August 7th, the live-action comedy positions the religious figure in the heart of Compton. Each episode will see him navigate through the ratchet trials and tribulations of those that live in the neighbourhood.

Check out the controversial trailer after the jump…

Both Adult Swim and McGruder are renown for their raciness, as such the ‘OMG’ factor of the trailer dimmed as it progressed. Still, we’re not sure whether this skews more towards funny or blasphemy.

That said, on the merit of the magic that was ‘The Boondocks’ we’ll give it chance. Will you?

It won’t be a joke when he meets the divine man he’s mocking. Laugh it up while you can.

Umm this isn’t my type of comedy. More for the low income set but I’m sure it will do well. He has an audience for this. And the show isn’t actually making fun of Jesus. From what I gather there is a neighborhood crackhead who thinks he is Jesus and the people in the hood just entertain it. There is a white Jesus that is infamous in Los Angeles where I live and he does the same thing. Except he is just super nice. And takes pics with everyone. I don’t c a problem wit the premise of the show.

This trailer lacks the bite of McGruder’s past efforts, and the satire seems kind of stale, but I’ll give the show a chance. I actually thought this was going to be animated which would probably work in its favor.

Just in case no one caught on, this show is a satire. It’s meant to show us just how much the bible is misinterpreted. He’s basically saying THIS is the Jesus we think we’re serving. It’s meant to juxtapose His image with this guys image to show us just a misconstrued we are when we think of Him. He not poking fun a Christianity is poking fun a Chritians
