Actresses Tika Sumpter is just one of many actors of African descent to have their names thrown into a sensitive debate whipped up by fans of movie studio ‘Marvel’, who have accused them of ignoring their calls to have an African American star lead in one of their pictures.

Coming following a petition was launched urging the company to consider ‘12 Years a Slave’ actress Lupita Nyong’o when next casting for the role of X-Men‘s storms, its fans have now seen seen their demands weighed in on by its president Kevin Feige.

His take on claims that Marvel lacks diversity?

Find out below…

Deadline explains:

“It’s a question I get asked more than anything else, more than Iron Man 4, more thanAvengers 3,” Feige revealed, saying that both projects have been developed as movies but declining to go any deeper into their status. “And that’s sort of the first time that’s really happened for us, and I think that makes a difference. I think that’s something we have to pay attention to.”

He went on to say that, traditionally, the studio has tried to shy away from making decisions based on fandom “because opinions online change, and they alter and they’re based on limited information to what’s going on behind the scenes,” but that “in this particular case, I think it is a groundswell, and I think it means something substantial.”

Even if this means that the teased release schedule through 2021 will change to showcase nonwhite male leads — despite Feige’s earlier commentary about the difficulties of doing so— Marvel will still be playing catch-up with Sony, which earlier this month announced a female-led Spider-Man spinoff scheduled for 2017.

So..

Should Marvel open its doors to more African American actors?

I absolutely love Tika, she is so beautiful.

The real question here is why hasn’t Marvel featured a black superhero for the longest time? I don’t think it is an unreasonable request.

But then again nerds are a different case altogether, they got mad when Captain America was made black.

I think they need more diversity full stop. We live in a multicultural world but their films don’t reflect that.

As a NERD, I feel marvel shouldn’t be pressured. Marvel as strived for the stories and artwork. The race of the characters shouldn’t matter. If ppl want superheroes of different races get off ur butts get an education and create a damn comic!!!! Don’t ruin something that has lived for years Bc ppl always have to throw the race card out. Ugh get over it ppl. I’m Latin American an I would be furious if they made captain America or Thor Hispanic!!!! Beyond furious!!!!

why ride on marvel alone? popular? and there’re still lots of superheroes that are black or even have been adapted to black. yeh. no issue. sure… female roles in marvel’s universes are rather not really there. granted. it’s tricky to uber existing roles. dontcha go in on storm’s role alone. there still fresh ones for both genders. why this all avengers and xmen tho? boiled down to popular marvel’s indeed.

I prefer DC or even TASpiderman films. They have better acting, more depth and better scores.
About Marvel: with all the universe they have built by now, it is unacceptable that they haven´t made a female superhero movie or a blck superhero movie already. They release 3 films every year. Even DC, which has not released as many films, is going to win at that, with the upcoming Wonder Woman stand alone.
