“Cool story but please keep Nina’s name out of your mouth. For the rest of your life.”

That was the message the Nina Simone estate delivered to the actress Zoe Saldana after catching the trailer for the biopic she shot to celebrate the groundbreaking performer’s story.

The movie makes its way to the world on April 22nd and has already been slammed by the entertainer’s fans who, citing Hollywood’s history with colorism as their reason why, see an alarming link between the effort gone to darken Saldana’s skin for the movie and blackface.

Looks good but Hollywood tried it… How can a ethnic person with black background blackface… Wow I definitely going to see it because of that reason

    • Ugggh March 3, 2016

Hollywood is just trying to find a way for them to still do it too. Lol Zoe Saldana is an amazing actress and she is very smart. This looks good!

    Can’t wait!!

  3. RASHAD March 3, 2016

Zoe, I love her and she delivers as an actor! However this movie is a NO for sooooo many reasons. At what part of the casting meeting or make chair did you stop and think that being painted BLACK everyday to betray a woman would be problematic? So many darkskin actresses like (Viloa Davis, Gabrielle Union, Nia Long, Anegla Bassett etc that would have done this. Amazing Hollywood would rather blow and waste thousands of dollars to hire a makeup artists to paint zoe black instead of hiring a darkskin actress and saving a few bucks in the process!

    • Ugggh March 3, 2016

      you just gave one reason…

      • RASHAD March 3, 2016

Yes, I said sooooo many reason but, I will stop at the painted face!

    • Cinnamon Girl March 3, 2016

Gabriel Union? Nia Long? They look nothing like Nina Simone. Please stop it

Mark my words “The Oscars” will use Zoe and this movie as their “TOKEN BLACK NOMINEE” next year to help save face after getting called out, boycotted, and having their WORST RATING this year since 2008.

    • Tyler Makiavelli March 3, 2016

      You think so!?
Nina was a pro black radicalist. So idk about that Oscar…

      • RASHAD March 3, 2016

Yes I feel that strongly! White people finally saw that BLACK PEOPLE DO WATCH THE OSCARS! They got their lowest rating since 2008 which came from the boycott led by a Black Power couple “Will & Jada. They need to make themselves look better and i’m sure they are going to have some sympathy/token nominations thrown in to make “US HAPPY”. This would be the perfect nomination, Giving a lightskin actress an award for her “daring portrayal” of a black negro singer who also was a radical! No different than giving “Robert Downey” Jr. praise for dressing up in black face for in “Tropic Thunder”

    • OMG Logic!!! March 3, 2016

I’m left speechless at your level of absolute mind-numbing delusion. That you think anyone gave a damn about that boycott is hilarious enough, that you think Black people “not watching them” made an impact is hysterical.

I invite you too educate yourself on little things like numbers, trends, and statistics. They’ll keep you from looking so damn foolish.

      • RASHAD March 3, 2016

Your opinion is simply your opinion, thanks replying though!

  5. Tyler Makiavelli March 3, 2016

Why couldnt they just get a dark skinned actress to play the role?

    • OMG Logic!!! March 3, 2016

Maybe Zoe had the best audition? I thought Black people wanted more roles for people of color? Now you’re complaining about how dark the color needs to be? Damned if you, damned if you don’t.

      • RNB fan March 3, 2016

Zoe doesnt want be called black tho.

      • Tyler Makiavelli March 3, 2016

Shut up you skanky white ass b****.
There are PLENTY of talented dark skinned actresses who could have executed this role. BUT instead of giving them a chance to shine, they give it to Zoe….
Why spend all of that money on air brushing when you could have had the REAL DEAL??
If skin color wasn’t a factor, why airbrush in the first motherfucking place???

  6. Weezy Tha Goat March 3, 2016

Nope not here for this ✌?️??

  7. Thando March 3, 2016

Plenty of authentic footage Nina Simone documentaries all over youtube. On them you get the real Nina not this face paint fake. On many of them she also gives those journalists exactly the answers they are looking for (to put it lightly lol).

  8. LND_Gyal March 3, 2016

The black face is shocking and I feel like Hollywood are going to try and downplay Ninas’ musical greatness and fabricate her private issues.

  9. Brandy Stan March 3, 2016

    I love Zoe Saldana!

  10. LmfaoHoe March 3, 2016

Smfh I’m not here for this bs. I bet Lauryn Hill shaking her dann head at this.

    • IOWNTHEWORLD March 3, 2016

What does Lauryn Hill have to do with this movie? She mentioned her in a song and sang her songs but that doesn’t make her an authority.

  11. Ronnie March 3, 2016

The story looks interesting but couldn’t get pass the black face. You can even see in some shots they missed her neck a little, and Zoe is a decent actress but her voice isn’t even consistent portraying Nina. India Arie, Viola Davis, Tika Sumpter would have been much better choices. Wont be supporting this.

  12. OMG Logic!!! March 3, 2016

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. It’s only Blackface if it’s done in a derogatory manner. The makeup here is being used to enhance Zoe’s skin and help her better portray Nina. Enough with the sensationalism.

    • Tyler Makiavelli March 3, 2016

      B****! You aren’t black.
It’s not for you to decide what is and isn’t “derogatory black face.”
Because that’s besides the point. Why airbrush when they could have given a real dark skin actress the opportunity to play this role? Have a seat Opey

      • OMG Logic!!! March 3, 2016

Because Zoe earned the role? It’s not like she’s a White woman playing Nina. She’s a woman of color who just so happens to have a slightly lower complexion than Nina.

  13. No favs, just here for the music March 3, 2016

The trailer looks really good! Ridiculous though the lengths they (unnecessarily) had to go through in order to portray Nina. However, I think Zoe’s acting skills suit the part

  14. StarXavi March 3, 2016

I’ll support. people like to find any reason to “boycott” or “protest” these days and everyone has an opinion. At the end of the day Zoe is an actress of color, a really good actress, and I think we should just be happy that Nina’s story is being told.

  15. work to the pillow top another way u love it March 4, 2016

No for the movie People are pissed off at Zoe S for using a dark face and doing the movie of Nina S since Zoe s isn’t black woman just a Puerto Rico woman

    • StopLyingggg March 6, 2016

She is black tho she’s just ignorant
