Viola Davis Sets Historical Oscar Record

Published: Wednesday 25th Jan 2017 by David

Viola Davis has set a historical new record via her latest Oscar nomination.

Good news below…

The exceptional artist is now the first African-American actress to secure three Oscar nominations in her lifetime by way of the nomination she earned for her performance in the movie adaptation of ‘Fences.’

The Huffington Post adds:

Before Tuesday’s nomination, Davis and actress Whoopi Goldberg were tied for the most nominations earned by a black actress. Goldberg was nominated in 1986 for “The Color Purple” and again in 1991 when she took home the win for “Ghost.”

She was previously been nominated in Best Supporting Actress category in the 2009 film ‘Doubt’ and in the Best Actress lane in the 2012 film ‘The Help‘ in which she starred in alongside Octavia Spencer.
