Ratings: ‘Will & Grace’ Wins Thursday Night Over ‘Grey’s,’ ‘How To Get Away With Murder’

It looks like Will, Grace, Jack, and Karen are just what the doctors ordered for NBC.

This week brought with it the highly anticipated return of the network’s game-changing comedy, ‘Will & Grace,’ and if ratings are anything to judge by, the four have not missed a step.  Granted, some of those steps landed on the toes of Trump supporters as the reboot’s premiere episode (aired September 28) was unapologetically politically charged, that certainly didn’t stop viewers from staying tuned.

Defeating ratings titan ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s new season kickoff (part of ABC’s #TGIT lineup), in fact, ‘Will’ not only defeated the usual Thursday night champion, but also every other scripted series that aired that night.

See the details below:

While the  ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s premiere was solid and in line with its other season kickoffs, the Viola Davis-led ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ – which kicked of its highly-anticipated season 4 – premiered to its lowest season numbers yet.  A

s noted above, 4.03 milion tuned in to catch the latest of Annaliese Keating and co.  Those figures represent a drop from years past:

‘How To Get Away with Murder’ Season Premiere Ratings

Season 1:  14.12 million

Season 2:  8.38 million

Season 3:  5.11 million

Season 4:  4.03 million

I think Murder usually does poorly on Thursday nights and picks up in subsequent days through On Demand and DVR viewing, due to the late time slot. Last season was AWFUL. We sat through an entire season to learn that Wes’ killer wasn’t someone we’d ever seen on the show before, who killed Wes for reasons we still don’t know. Seasons 1 and 2 popped. Season 3 dragged. I’m looking for fire this season.

You’re absolutely right, season 3 was all over the place, hard to follow and overall not very enjoyable. Which is reflected in the ratings. If this season doesn’t bring it, the might as well (and probably will) cancel the show.

Oh dear , I love HTGAWM .. but looking at the numbers I can see cancellation heading it’s way ??? this makes me sad . Although , they shouldn’t have killed Wes . That was dumb.

This show really was a pioneer in its day, wasn´t it?

This show is amazing, yall are not going to act like scandal didn’t have a season that was all over the place. I personally feel that the ratings went down because people don’t like to think. With HTGAWM, you have to think and use your brain with many of these cases, half of America like for storylines to be given to them in the first episode. I hope this show continues.

I smell cancellation after this season or the next

I was very happy to have Will & Grace back. So refreshing. And they had some great one liners that I will be using from now on.
