Fox 21 studios has called on the Ghanaian creative Monica Owusu-Breen to join Joss Whedon as he revives his Pop culture-shaping show ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer.’

It will be contemporary, building on the mythology of the original. Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.
The masterminds behind the reboot are searching high and low for a black actress to lead the series as they search for the right network to partner with for its release.
Though we’re elated to learn of Whedon’s plans to make the new Buffy a sister, it is important to remember that diverse casting can sometimes just be glorified tokenism.
Put simply, if this is going with work with a black lead, the reboot’s writing will have to speak directly to the unique experiences a black slayer would face and make an unashamed effort to court black views with ideas, concepts and motifs it can relate to.

I’m so sick of these reboots. Buffy is a classic. Bring back the original cast and build around them.
@Musichead – I agree. It’s ridiculous. There’s absolutely NO creativity anymore. I partially blame reality television. People find it so easy to make a sure out of creating controversy and drama that they don’t even bother to think creatively anymore.

EXACTLY!!!! This show was a CLASSIC…90s BEST!!!! Sarah Michelle Gellar already said that she was down for making a reboot during the 20th anniversary last year in Entertainment Weekly!!! It’s sounds like they’re trying to keep up with the Charmed Reboot
Sarah Michelle is the only Buffy. Original cast or nothing.

f*** off with the black view and experience. all that does is narrow the viewership to a very unreliable demographic and that poor actress has a failed career on her hands. look at black lighting hardly pulling it’s weight against the other cw shows
Unreliable? Power, Empire (as much I hate it), Scandal and HTGAWM says hi.
yeah 4 shows out of tens that have failed.lol…thats my point. also scandal and htgawm don’t rely on their main actresses race and the roles could have just as easily been done by a white actress with hardly a change to the world the characters live in.

Personally, I loved Buffy and welcome a reboot but she really doesn’t need to be race-bended to fit these new woke times. Buffy can be still be white, blonde and hot.., it’s her circle that needs diversity. An African-American take on the mythology can work, but why not just create a new character to carry the mantle of ‘slayer’.

Yuck it could even have been a spin off of the original show following a group of new slayers. It would have left the door open to potential guest appearances of the original cast.
