‘Queen Sugar’ Renewed For Fourth Season At OWN

Published: Wednesday 8th Aug 2018 by Sam

‘Queen Sugar’ has proven a sweet success for OWN, so it’s little surprise that the network has renewed the gripping drama for a fourth season.

Details on today’s confirmation after the jump…

Ahead of the third season finale on August 22nd, Oprah’s imprint formally announced that the show will be back for the 2019 TV season.

Anchored by Kofi Siriboe, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Bianca Lawson, and Rutina Wesley, the series follows the layered lives and loves of the Bordelon clan.

Beyond the renewal news, it’s been confirmed that co-executive producer Anthony Sparks will take the baton as showrunner and executive producer on season 4. Creator Ava DuVernay will continue on as one of ‘Sugar’s exec producers.

Speaking on the pick-up, Erik Logan, president of OWN said:

“Under Ava’s creative vision and leadership, ‘Queen Sugar’ continues to earn a well-deserved reputation for depicting nuanced characters, rich storylines and establishing an inclusive team that inspires and ignites much needed conversations about our society today. We are very proud of this show, the incredible cast, producers and crew, and can’t wait for more of the Bordelon family in season four.”

As one of the only shows of its kind of the box, we’ve long loved ‘Queen Sugar’ and are glad that there’ll be more story to tell.

Congrats to all involved.
