American Broadcasting Network Set To Welcome 'American Idol' To Its Roster?

Contrary to reports furnished just last month, the bidding war for the reboot of ‘American Idol’ is alive and well as the reality singing competition has been extended yet another lifeline.

Just two months ago the show’s original network home of 15 years, FOX, was believed to be the frontrunner in the bidding battle against fellow primetime networks (including NBC – home of ‘The Voice’).  Now, refreshed reports indicate the tides have turned in the favor of another fierce competitor – ABC.

ABC has emerged as the likely home for the revival of the reality competition series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Sources caution that a deal is not in place and ABC, producers FremantleMedia and Core Media Group all declined comment.

ABC emerged as the front-runner to land Idol earlier this week, though Fox — the show’s home for 15 seasons — was said to still be in the mix. NBC, which also put in an offer for the show earlier this year, was out of the bidding. Sources note that while ABC does not have a signed deal, the Disney-owned network has established the “framework for a deal” for the show. A formal announcement is expected to come at the network’s May 16 upfront presentation to ad buyers.

As of time reported, there has been no confirmation of which judges – if any – will return to the panel.  Furthermore, no official word on host Ryan Seacrest‘s return.

Bring it back so it can be cancelled a second time. Yeah, that sounds productive. I have a crazy idea: how about the TV network that is trying to bid on the right to revamp this played out show use that airtime to air something brand new instead? Like, I don’t know, a sitcom or a drama. You know, something scripted and brought to life by actors. Like they did in the medieval times of 1996.
