She scooted in (no pun intended) at the right time. Aaliyah had just passed and bathe industry was searching for a new chick. Her voice was basic, her performances were below average and her music was cute for high school girls. She died along with Ja rule and Irv Gotti. Didn’t def jam buy most of her albums anyway?
Must suck to have peaked in your first few years. 12 years later, no growth in the music, performances, vocals etc. Mainstream success completely gone and now it’s just nostalgia.

She made history when she had 3 #1 singles on the charts at the same time!!! Sure it was a decade ago, and Beyoncé still on top of the charts swagger-jackin, but hey it is what it is!!! This comment will be taken as hate but oh well. I’m tired of these artists living in the past. You are in 2014. What was hot in 2002 is not hot in 2014; so forget about 2002 and focus on 2014. Yes, certain artists like Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Brandy, Monica and Ashanti were hot in their peak yrs, but they’re music does not appeal to the GP so if they want to remain any once of relevancy, they need to get with the times and make music that’ll appeal the masses and not just gay men and Black women. Release songs the GP will like and keep songs your target audience will love on the albums. Case in point… Ashanti, I Got It could’ve been used simply as an album opener and you should’ve went with Scars as the lead single. Ciara, Body Party could’ve been an album track and something like Livin’ It Up or Overdose could’ve been the lead single. Kelly, KDL and Dirty Laundry were not singles, however Gone, You’ve Changed or This Is Love could’ve been singles and Brandy, Put It Down and Wildest Dreams would’ve worked on Full Moon or Never Say Never but not in 2012 boo boo, so why didn’t you go with something like Without You or No Such Thing as Too Late, songs that would’ve gotten heavy rotation on Urban, Adult Contemporary and Rhythmic radio and could’ve gotten performed at awards shows like Billboard Awards and American Music Awards
