As the age old adage goes: all good things must come to an end. And for fans of hit dramedy ‘The Game’ it’s sadly the show’s turn.

BET have confirmed that the series will officially wrap after its ninth season.

Details below…

Deadline reports that, just five months after being announced for renewal, the network’s flagship comedy is currently in the midst of filming both its eighth and ninth seasons – with the latter serving as its last. The episodes will begin airing in 2015 and, depending on how BET plan their roll-out, could climax in 2016. As such, there’s still many stories to play out; just with a clear end-point in sight.

The network said in a statement:

“All good things must come to an end and after celebrating four successful seasons of The Game on BET, the Network has announced production is underway on the show’s final two seasons.

In January 2011 the cult following of The Game proved that the show was a fan favorite with 7.7 million viewers for its premiere debut on BET. With seasons eight and nine, we’re excited to end on a high note by giving Sabers fans a chance to bid farewell to their favorite players on and off the field.”

Mara Brok Akil, the show’s creator (who is enjoying success on BET with new show ‘Being Mary Jane’),  added:

“Shows do end; that is a part the business. I’m very happy BET gave The Game five additional seasons to explore these characters and this world. We made history when we got to the network and it’s nice to be able to celebrate the great achievements of the show.

The bigger legacy was the conversation that the audience had with the network. There was a partnership that was created and the use of social media — we were part of the history of television and how it interacts with social media and how it can be an asset to a show and the support of a show. I think The Game is locked in history about that movement.”

Say what folk will about the show in its latter years, it enjoyed an incredible run and really did set the precedent for how powerful viewers can be.

No word on why the curtain is falling now, but we imagine a mixture of falling ratings, new opportunities, and a natural end to storylines being the main reasons.

In any case, we wish all involved with the show a fruitful future.

Exactly this show is crap now and this time I won’t be petitioning for it to stay on no more seasons…

Such a shame in a sense. I def wanted them to bring back Tia and Pooch for a season and def if its the farewell. Those story lines certainly should be revisited for a final season, they helped make this show what it was. Letting them go was such a bad idea. SMH!

I hope the last two seasons end with a bang! I agree the show has gotten stale in the last couple seasons, but the Akil’s are super talented and will let the show end with grace.
