Bette Midler On Super Bowl: “We Need Justice For Janet Jackson”

Published: Sunday 4th Feb 2018 by Sam

As the clock counts down to Justin Timberlake‘s headlining slot at the 2018 Super Bowl Halftime Show, debate continues to rage about why he got the gig in the first place.

Indeed, given his integral role in the infamous “wardrobe malfunction” during Janet Jackson‘s 2004 performance, millions are still unable to rationalize how he has been asked back and she is reportedly “banned.”

Even Jackson’s industry peers are weighing in. Case in point, actress Bette Midler who did not hold back about the matter on Twitter.

See what mean below…

Can’t say we disagree. What’s your take on Bette’s remark?

Your thoughts?

I agree with everything Bette said. Too bad people like Bette Midler did not speak up YEARS ago. I do believe it is truly unfair and racist that Justina gets to perform again and the industry blocked Janet’s opportunities.

How is it racist? Same thing would have happened if it had been Madonna. It’s misogynist, it’s unfair, it’s wrong, but it’s not racist.

      • Caleb February 4, 2018

How about if it had been Usher instead of Timberlake?

    • Jasmine February 4, 2018

If you think Janet deserved to have her videos, music projects, and public performances derailed for over ten years because of this little incident then you are purposefully turning a blind eye to racism. EVERYTHING about the blacklisting was RACIST. MTV, VIACOM, AND THE NFL ARE ALL RACIST ORGANIZATIONS THAT DID THIS. #JusticeForJanet

    100% AGREE

Bette is absolutely right!! The misogyny continues. #JusticeForJanet

F.Y.I. Bette is more than an actress. She is also an amazing singer and many more titles.

Aww, auntie Bette has spoken! #JusticeforJanet

Everything that happened to janet after the super bowl speaks volumes of the state of racism and sexism in American. The white boy went on to have an extremely successful career and the black girl got blackballed and career ended. The fact that they invited JT back after what they did to janet is sickening.

She just came off a world tour had 2-4 number one albums, multi platinum albums and multiple world tours, including headlining two of the largest summer music festivals this summer, and has remained the best female performer of all times AND done multiple movies and books, fashion collars, modeling deals etc . Career ended? Not even close. Career suffered? For sure:

      • Ken February 4, 2018

Thanks for clearing that up. She is no where near her career ending.

      • Meme February 4, 2018

This after how many failed attempts. You can’t tell janet was the same caliber of artist prior and after the super bowl. Let’s not. She is just now getting her footing back.

      • Caleb February 4, 2018

She has definitely not released a multi-platinum album since the Super Bowl incident, nor have her concerts been grossing the same numbers they did before that. To say the SB incident didn’t have a detrimental impact on her career is delusional.

Bette is always serving up! Facts! Janet has all these people with her name in their mouths without even trying. She needs to release something!!

    TRUE

Don’t worry Bette, you’ll be watching the halftime show tonight, waiting for Justin to break his legs, just like JANET and all the people hashtagging #JusticeforJanet, keep begging, maybe ya’ll convince them to give Janet her OWN halftime show next year, don’t lose hope, everything is possible 😊

    • mee mee February 4, 2018

you are funny today!! congrats you bitter, bottom bish!! 🙂

    • Cough Cough February 4, 2018

Janet stopped caring about Justin in 2094 which is why she ignored him. Silly of you to think she’d care this much about an MJ rip off who now looks older than her. From a legend to a wannabe

    • Davii February 4, 2018

White trailer park trash like his fave

It really shows that what you do will come back to haunt you. The moves he made throughout his career (Throwing Britney and Janet under the bus working with Woody Allen) slid by at a time before social media, but now people are in charge of the media and its finally coming back on him at a time when he need great pr the most since he’s trying to sell an album. #TimesUp

Amen. Especially since Justin is the one who exposed her b******. #JusticeForJanet

bette has been one of the most conscious white women and she continues to be a good example of a person with privilege who still helps those underprivileged

    • Ticiethegreat February 8, 2018

      Exactly who is underprivileged here?

  13. Bravo!! February 4, 2018

This could be a win for Justin or a losing situation for Justin. One winner could be his albums sells will be revised higher, which yesterday I listen to his album after grape juice posted about his predictions of sales, and during or after the Super Bowl people will stream his album. Then with Bette milder talking Justin halftime could be most watched. S***!… I don’t see Mr. Timberlake losing. BTW: I like the album & I listen while high..

Janet Jackson did not “have her videos, music projects, and public performances derailed for over ten years because of this little incident.” Her videos, music projects and public performances were derailed by inferior music. Case closed.
