Michael Jordan has a released a statement condemning the treatment of African-American citizens in the United States by the legal system.

Published in response to the murders of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, the former athlete’s statement came armed with a donation of $2 million made to civil rights organisations.

The problem?

His altruism seems to have been ignited after he learned of plans that were being made to boycott his products.

Full story below…

Widely popular in the African-American community, Jordan’s sportswear became the target of ‘Black Lives Matters’ supporters who saw his decision to remain silent on several issues relating to the black community as problematic.

Why?

A Legend Regardless. He did what he had to do, just like the rest of em’ … They need to leave this brother alone.

    • BeyBeySting July 25, 2016

“Leave him alone.” That’s what he was afraid of. Beyonce was scared too. I can admit that as a Stan. The press forced her to acknowledge blm because she didn’t want to. That is a fact. It took her months to get involved with the Trayvon story.

      • Stephy July 25, 2016

I mean, this brother has never been the controversial type. He’s been so laid back & chill most of his legendary career. Sometimes I forget that Mr. Jordan even still exist. So, I don’t understand why people want him to voice his opinion. Not everybody is obligated to get involved with this situation. But, I’m glad he finally did. Even tho it took them calling him out & threatening not buying his legendary shoe’s. He’s putting his mouth were his money is tho… Over 5 million $’s will be donated by him. Overall, everybody is not gonna want to take part in this VERY serious subject, it comes with a lot of backlash & heat/judgement. People needs to realize that everyone can’t nor do they want to take the heat. It is what it is…

I agree. However I think now that she is involved and she experienced backlash from her Super Bowl performance she is now FEARLESS! Once you put one foot in the water you might as well jump in. I’m sure she always disagreed with what was going on but, was scared because she was like Americas “TOKEN BLACK GIRL” they took threat card away from her but I doubt she gives a F**k because she album is platinum and people of all races are lining up to attend her Formation tour.

@stephy take off the rose colored glasses and know the difference between sincerity and a PR stunt. Don’t be stupid

      • Fatusankoh July 25, 2016

Beybey sting you are no bey fan live bey out of hateful mouth bey is always involve in black life

    • Applause July 25, 2016

Open your f****** eyes stephy are you that dumb? Or do you need attention that bad?

      • Stephy July 25, 2016

My EYES are open. But, I’m just expressing my opinion on people FORCING these entertainers to get involve with something they probably really don’t want to. But, since people are threatening their business/money. It’s almost like they’re FORCED into this situation regardless. All because they’re black. If it’s authentic, then the celebrity would speak out without being harassed. It’ll be a natural & heartfelt/honest contribution to the cause. Not a FORCED one…

Yes! Of course, leave HIM AND HIS SHOES A LONE! Let the affluent people who can afford them buy them instead. I thought they were supposedly made for “White Suburban Kids” any ways?

  2. Ughhhh July 25, 2016

This man does not care about the Black community; he cares about his brand. He partners with Nike who are known for using child labor production overseas. He over prices his shoes, in which he uses to target the lower-class black community by advertising and selling them to lower-end stores in their neighborhoods, knowing damn well they can’t afford them as well as, selling them in small quantities in which leads to theft, assault and violence in the black communities. This man only spoke because BLM boycotted his brand; and without the black community his shoes and brand have less value because they are the only ones who are still buying that bullshît.

  3. BEYSTAN_ SINCE 1997 July 25, 2016

Michael Jordan go jump off a bridge! This is why I stopped buying Jordan’s 7yrs ago!

Black youth have been getting shot, stabbed, robbed, & going BROKE to by your over priced shoes for the past 31yrs. Jordan knows all to well about black youth & the (the things these kids will do legally & illegally to buy his shoes). He has been ripping the black community off for years & only throws it back in our faces by skinning & grinning in white people faces and marrying them! Jordan is no different then most public figures who felt pressure to speak about touchy subjects. I respect Jordan but he sold out decades ago!

      Exactly!!!

    Who cares?

    • RihNavy July 25, 2016

      *about Ciara, sis?

      • #JACKIE July 25, 2016

You’ve become so stale and predictable. Go suck on your master Annalise’s d***. Maybe you’ll get some inspiration.

      • RihNavy July 25, 2016

Says the person who recycles their own drags, CONTINUOUSLY and gets clocked for it EVERY. GOD. DAMN. TIME. Hœ sit down

  5. And The Voice Of God Said😇 July 25, 2016

Jackie I really admire you! I just wish Ciara was as passionate about her career as you are. But I think this whole marriage thing will help rebuild her image. I think people will give her one last shot but she better not mess it up on the music front! 🔥💃🏿🔥

    • #JACKIE July 25, 2016

Kiii thanks boo. Ci has found her niche and if she’s happy so am I. I’ll continue to drag these pressed as hōes on her behalf though. 😘

  6. Grande The Way July 25, 2016

Ok but how is his forced statement any better than staying silent? I’d rather celebrities stay silent on issues they really dont care about than to speak up out of pressure. Its dishonest.

    • BEYSTAN_ SINCE 1997 July 25, 2016

Maybe one day when you own a multi BILLION dollar empire you will understand why he spoke out! Obviously it is disingenuous & dishonest however, Jordan has a boss (Nike) that he has to answer to just like you do. Nike are not going to let their cash cow run dry… This statement $ $2 million will hush some people up but honestly people have called Jordan for years over his lack of involvement with the black community despite them making him a Billionaire.

  7. Trans-Mrs. Ciara Wilson July 25, 2016

Black people have no problem boycotting each other over one problem but won’t stop supporting white-owned businesses and organizations who have played a part in Black oppression for oh so long.

    • Jon Jon July 26, 2016

Yep!!!. It should of been more like stop going to Walmart!!! But that would of meant some actual sacrificing.

      • Pray4MyCityChiBLACK July 26, 2016

F*K WALMART! RIP JOHN CRAWFORD ❤

    • Pray4MyCityChiBLACK July 26, 2016

Mike is White-Cuban owned and Nike is White-owned so boycott Jordan’s and kill TWO birds with one stone. Let the Cuban “people of color” and the “law enforcement officers who protect” him and HIS family whom Mike “have the greatest respect for their sacrifice and service” SPEND THEIR money on his cheap, expensive, uncomfortably sole less shoes. F^K Mike and Nike period.
