Disney Rejects Will Smith $20 Million Request

Published: Monday 27th Mar 2017 by David

Disney doesn’t believe Will Smith is worth the $20 million he asked to be paid to play in their forthcoming ‘Dumbo‘ movie.

Producers of the live action reboot are reportedly in talks with Colin Farrell to fill the position Smith had hoped to bag for $20 million.

Why he didn’t receive it?

‘The Hollywood Reporter‘ shares:

Will Smith, who wanted a $20 million payday for a live-action Dumbo, directed by Tim Burton. Disney balked, and Smith instead collected his $20 million from Netflix to star in Bright. Few argue with the wisdom of that move.

Tim Burton is helming the movie about the baby circus elephant and is yet to announce its premiere date.

So, what do you think?

Was Disney wrong to turn Smith down?

Good for him. The trailer looks good. Netflix be poppin with some great original content. F*ck Dumb as$ Dumbo! #PayMeWhatYouOweMe

  2. S****** Blonde March 27, 2017

He’s not a good-enough actor to demand Dicaprio’s or Cruise’s salary, he’s not on that level.

    • Cough Cough March 27, 2017

He’s every bit as good as those two actors and he’s also a comedian and musician. Stop it, honey.

      • S****** Blonde March 27, 2017

In what world is this guy a talented actor as Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio?….We are talking about “acting” here, not music, Smith is a “Jack of all trades”, master of none.

      • Paulo March 27, 2017

And DiCaprio and Cruise are talented in the same world where Korpse Cobain is actually alive breathing and talented. #shade

      • AmbeRussell March 27, 2017

Tom Cruise isn’t that great. He is a one trick pony. At lease will can do more versatile and play many roles and cater to blacks and whites and minorities groups.

      • March 27, 2017

        exactly.

    • Cough Cough March 27, 2017

He has done equally as challenging roles and demanding roles and is equally as versatile with an equal amount of iconic movies and roles. I mean just his role as “fresh prince of bel air” is more iconic and transcending than ANY role either of those gentlemen have played.

      • S****** Blonde March 27, 2017

No, he hasn’t played challenging roles as those two, and no, he’s movies are not equally iconic, and you’re delusional if you think the fresh prince of bel air is more iconic and transcending than Titanic’s Jack Dawson and Top Gun’s LT Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, really delusional, Titanic is like the most iconic and well known movie all all times.

      • Cough Cough March 27, 2017

We’ll just have to agree to disagree. Titanic is amazing but naw.

    • Jamon March 27, 2017

You need to go watch Ali and The Pursuit of happiness. He was nominated for an Oscar for both of those movies. He’s on of the most diverse actors in Hollywood, from comedies like Hitch, to action movies like I am Legend, to dramas like Collateral Beauty. He’s has had multiple $20 million pay day’s, starting back to Men in Black and Bad Boys 2. He also turned down the lead role in the first Matrix.

      • S****** Blonde March 27, 2017

I watched all those films, he’s an average actor at best, certainly not a talent like Cruise and DiCaprio, don’t care how much he earns, he still is not on the same level of those two.

    • Caleb March 27, 2017

Did you not watch concussion? If anything he’s a better actor than the 2 you mentioned, though of course in your case the two you picked to say are better than him are white so in your mind they deserve to be paid more than him based on that alone.

    • Tonitony March 27, 2017

S****** blonde!!!!! Go slap ur damn self in the face…. Will smiths been acting longer than you’ve been alive child!

    • Coolnesss March 27, 2017

Will being on the same level as Tom & DiCaprio acting-wise is debatable but what you’re not going to do is discredit his bankability as a movie star because in that aspect, he’s right up there with them. He is one of the highest grossing actors of all time. I remember when he was referred to as “Mr. 4th of July” in the 2000s because of how much of a box-office draw he was during the summer movie period. And even though the 2010’s have not been so kind to him, he’s very much worth the 20 million dollar pay check as he’s actually been paid that amount for a movie before. I know Black excellence in all its forms threatens you but please get it together. Your thinly veiled hate is messing with your thinking.

      B*******

    • Pat March 28, 2017

Lmfaooo, Gtfoh you sound stupid af!

  3. Pat March 27, 2017

Its a new day. He’s no longer the lone black marquee (there ya go tgj..a new word. go ahead n still my writing style again) actor anymore. Idris mahershala, or any of the other guys can do it just as well and cheaper.

    • Cough Cough March 27, 2017

I doubt tgj is going to “still” anything from you if you can’t even spell STEAL, correctly. Lol

  4. JTT March 27, 2017

I still don’t know why a man with those ears would want to associate himself with “Dumbo.”

  5. ? + ✈ = ? March 27, 2017

Dumbo the shade of it all(wills big a*** ears)

  6. Brotha1461 March 27, 2017

When was the last time tom pulled in $100 m outside of MI f

  7. Enough Already March 27, 2017

He is worth it which is why he asked.

He got paid $20 mil for “Wild, Wild West”.

  8. Jj March 27, 2017

Imma let you finish… will smith is the greatest actor of all times

    • #ispeakfacts March 27, 2017

      @Jj

Nawww… that’s Denzel Washington u talking about! He has played any and every role you can think of character wise!

      • Jake March 27, 2017

Yeah Tom Hanks says hi , though Denzel is coming realllllllly close .

  9. RealNegro March 27, 2017

    Cruise? Good actor? Poor taste!

    • S****** Blonde March 27, 2017

But I bet you think Smith is?…..He’s performance in “Born on the Fourth of July” alone destroys everything Smith has done in his career.

      • Caleb March 27, 2017

The only thing Tom Cruise is good at is acting a fool on Oprah’s couch and turning Katie Holmes into a f****** brainwashed android.

  10. Fact Checker March 27, 2017

These people are insane if they think Tom Cruise or Leonardo DiCaprio are in anyway better than Will Smith!!

  11. Mark111 /.\ March 27, 2017

Will, just like Tom, built a career off of Box Office number, not great movies. And like Tom, when the numbers goes away, so do they. Will TRIES to grab the Oscar, but it’s so try hard and they flop. His films were always crap outside of Ali, I Am Legend, Bad Boys and a few others. The rest were just summer dumb fun movie. Who calls Man In Black a classic film?

  12. Mark111 /.\ March 27, 2017

I would have turned it down when I seen Tim Burton’s name.

  13. Meteorite March 27, 2017

No shade no tea but I didn’t know Netflix had $20 million like that

    • Mark111 /.\ March 27, 2017

Netflix is worth $1.79B and is giving theaters, tv and studios a run for their money.

      • Meteorite March 27, 2017

        Well alright then lol

  14. HGTV March 27, 2017

Well…I kinda don’t blame Disney for turning down Will Smith’s demand. I mean he isn’t exactly the Box Office draw he used to be. When was the last time he had a huge hit? S****** Squad doesn’t count because that was an ensemble cast but even then it was panned by critics. So yeah, I don’t think they were or anyone was attacking his acting ability but rather the quality of his work. Again when was the last time he had hit?
Someone above mentioned Tom Cruise, sure he may not be the best actor but you cannot deny his box office draw. How many flops has Crusie had in contrast to Smith? Not nearly as many or any if at all.

  15. Fancy BISH March 27, 2017

Why ya’ll coming for Tom Cruise’s wig? lol #LeaveTomAlone

  16. Dionysusdeville March 27, 2017

Ten years ago I would have been suprised. Will is past his prime at this point

  17. AmbeRussell March 27, 2017

Everyone keeps talking about tom cruise, BUT he has made only 2 billion more than will with over 10 more films. His films average $164,124,000 to will’s $183,527,200. So when you talk about numbers, please talk real numbers, not assumptions. Tom films gained $8,787.5 (8 billion) to Will’s $7,644.4 (7 billion) with 12 less films.

    • HGTV March 27, 2017

Well according to therichest.com/celebnetworth Will Smith’s Net Worth is $240 Million

and according to the same site,

Tom Cruise’s Net Worth is $480 Million

What does this exactly mean? Well nothing really. They’re both rich and can wine and dine at the same places with no problems.
I guess its just a matter of taste and what kind of movie they’re doing and if you want to see it.
Will Smith for the most part branches out and does a variety of genres whereas Cruise is pretty much as of late an action star.

  18. AmbeRussell March 27, 2017

Independence day is a CLASSIC. It gets played every year as an essential for 4 of July, like Halloween is to Halloween and a Christmas story is to Xmas.

  19. eric March 27, 2017

I like Will, but compared to the other actors mentioned, only one of them has been stuck in a 10-year slump. Will made a huge mistake not taking a lesser sum to reap greater benefits down the road, because Tim Burton rarely loses, and there’s plenty of interest in a live-action dumbo.

  20. Buzz Off! March 28, 2017

TBH, whether Will is worth 20Mill or not he should know damn well Disney company ain’t gon Pay him No damn 20Mill, .. Might as well they Get Johny Depp.. he always works in the Tim burtons Production..

  21. Thando March 28, 2017

Will Smith is NOT a better actor than Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s on par with Tom but definitely nowhere near what Leo can do with a script.

Will is no longer as bankable as he was back then. And also, Tim Burton is an exceptional director/producer. Without Tim Burton we wouldn’t have “Beetlejuice”, “Edward Scissorhands” “Alice in Wonderland(remake)”.

  22. Summer tyime tran pico at your best March 28, 2017

    Good for him
