Issa Rae Readies 90s-Set African-American Drama

Issa Rae‘s visions are coming to fruition with every passing day.

Brilliant news for the writer below…

HBO, which is also home to her hit show ‘Insecure’, has committed to supporting a brand new series from Rae which is set in the 90s.

Its premise?

Bridging those later Reagan Era and early Clinton years, the drama will center on the marriage of Sheryl and Jackson, with the former an envelope bounds-pushing real estate agent and the latter a conflicted LAPD anti-gang task force recruit. The potential series will also feature the couples’ teen daughter and son, Ebony and Les.

The African-American series will follow the lives of its characters as they face the turbulent time period and what it meant for their community.

Backing Rae? The Turner House author Angela Flournoy.

I’m so thrilled to be working with Angela. I was a huge fan of The Turner House and we feel so lucky to bring her beautiful storytelling to HBO.

A premiere date is yet to be set.

I truly am inspired by the many endeavors set forth by Issa. She is a breath of fresh air amongst this stale, pop culture climate.
