Mahershala Ali (above) and the cast of the hit movie ‘Moonlight’ were honoured at last night’s Golden Globe Awards when the project was presented with the Best Drama trophy.

Only right then, as the movie continues to rock theatres nationwide, that its cast and crew celebrate their win by speaking to press at the ceremony about the project.

Alas, their time with media outlets saw them quizzed on Kim Burrell’s slamming of the LGBT community  and how it may have affected Janelle Monae who stars in ‘Moonlight’ as well as ‘Hidden Figures’, the movie Burrell recorded music for.

How they responded?

Watch below…

Yet to see what Burrell said?

You all came here to hear my cause? I came to tell you about sin. That sin nature – I […] – that perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion. It has deceived many many men and women. It has caused a strain on the body of Christ and the homosexual spirit and they come up […] love everybody […] spit on ’em.

You cannot get instruction from God’s holiness with that much perversion.

You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted […] oh Lord.

You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted!

‘Moonlight’ tells the story of a young Africa-American coming to terms with his sexuality in a heteronormative world and the struggles he faces as he seeks acceptance in his community and in the world at large.

Mahershala Ali revealed why he felt he compelled to join the project after reading its script.

He shared:

A lot of actors wish they were having a visceral response to the scripts that they’re reading. And the first time I read it, I think everyone involved will tell you they got really choked up and just really connected to this story and these characters.

I think a lot of people feel like they’re on the fringes right now. A little bit outside and away from center, and not necessarily represented in the most truthful or most connected way,” he said. “Even though I think there’s very few people in general that can specially connect to Chiron’s experience, I think in some way all of have been ‘the other,’ the person on the outside, maybe not persecuted to the degree that this young man is, but I think we all want to be loved and embraced and need connection and support and family and mentorship. And I think people are seeing that and recognizing the humanity in every individual.

More like “TGJ addresses Kim Burrell…Again.”

    Y’all are tired. Move the f*ck on…

    • Unfoolish 2017 January 9, 2017

But they did address it though. Why so mad?

      • Kwinzy January 9, 2017

It’s more important things to talk about in these streets…umm the actual movie?? The woman said what she said then lost gigs, got shamed, got dragged, scalped, blanched…you name it! I’m gay but making Kim the poster b**** for everyone in my life who caused me pain does little to humble my spirit. Move on.

Excuse me, but did the cast address Kim or did they not?

      • Kwinzy January 9, 2017

Yes excuse yourself… The door –>

How are you gay and want to sweep the incident under the rug? Doing so has caused so many negative effects. That kind of attitude is exactly why we have crackheads, straight pedos, hell even single mothers with multiple kids by different men acting like their better than gays, just because they aren’t!

Kim Burrell should be shamed, maybe she’ll know how it feels for some gays who deal with it on the regular.I’ve seen so many church queens come to this woman’s defense it’s disgusting!

No one is making Kim Burrell the face of gay bashing, she did so when she preached her sermon that night. We are holding her accountable for her words and actions. If you being a gay male don’t see the issue, you’re part of the problem as well.

No one will “hold Kim accountable” but her grown ass self. If anything it’s making her more relevant when you should be paying her dust. What’s left of Kim? Answer that. Stop tryna change people who don’t wanna change themselves.

TGJ have to be the only ppl talking about still Mariah new year’s event and this. Like move the f*** on, it’s been DAYS. Kim went to church and got paid and Mariah still recording her show & album. TGJ is still doing… yeah. And the celebs talking are b******* and not heartfelt, they just don’t want to disagree.

Kim Burrell’s name is so irrelevant in this celebratory moment.

  4. Beyoncé Jackson January 9, 2017

I’m tired of hearing about this. Kim has been blacklisted from the mainstream. Let’s move on…

He is so incredibly well spoken, I could watch him answer questions all day long.

Agreed, the director seems like he’d be a great person to have a conversation with.

I have to agree that making Kim Burrell the focus of Moonlight’s campaign, while relevant in a vague sense, takes the shine off the celebratory moment. Kim showed her ass and received a rightful dragging but I don’t want to think of her anymore, she’s irrelevant.
