Mo’nique On “Hollywood Black-Balling”: If White Women Are Complaining About Wage Equality, What Do You Think Black Women Get?

Over two weeks since her explosive announcement that she’d been blackballed from the industry, Mo’nique‘s promo trail for her new movie ‘Blackbird’ has seen it blazed and bombarded with questions about the incident.

As if her controversial rebuttal to Lee Daniels‘ allegations of her “diva demands” didn’t light enough of a fire, now the ‘net has been reignited by quotes from a recent interview with our friends at TheWrap.  Likening her current issues to the civil rights struggles experienced by Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali, Mo has weighed in on Patricia Arquette‘s memorable 2015 Oscar acceptance speech regarding women’s pay equality and more.

Does she have a point?  Tell us below:

Via TheWrap:

“When you win an Academy Award, what do you believe that the award is supposed to do? Should it elevate your career financially? So, when we get offers that appear as if I just got off the Greyhound bus and just got to Hollywood and we say, ‘Well, can we get what’s fair?’ that’s gonna appear overly aggressive if [the studios and production companies] not used to people saying, ‘Can you just give us what’s fair.’”

“We’re not asking for any more, but we’re not asking for any less. We’re just asking for what’s fair. When you hear my sisters Gwyneth Paltrow and Patricia Arquette who happen to be white women, and they say, ‘Can we have wage equality in Hollywood?’ Well, if there are white women saying that, what do you think we’re getting?”

“So, it makes us smile to the universe when we hear, ‘[My business partner/manager] is overly aggressive,’ because we’re asking for fair. That’s the same thing some people said about Dr. Martin Luther King. He was ‘overly aggressive’ because he was simply asking to be treated fairly. Some people said the same thing about Muhammad Ali because he said, ‘I will not go fight in the war when those people have done nothing to me.’ Now, by no means am I comparing myself to those amazing people.”

I think Lee daniels is just a messy bottom who wants white people to like him. Black gays would love to be accepted by whites juxtaposed to blacks. That’s just a reality (with most of the black gays). Not all but still a minority.

Your comment is ignorant and disgusting and shows your limited thinking ability, if you think all black people long and live to be accepted by white people. White people are no GODS by any means…. I get what you were trying to say, but you FAILED miserably, And you should probably exit stage left…

Honey if you read my entry (which I had a typo *majority) I didn’t say all blacks or all black gays feel like this. It’s just a trend I see especially with ” new blacks”. They wanna hang with the white people so bad and it’s annoying as f***.

Yes!! a messy bottom indeed! In regards to black gays, i’ve seen exactly what you are talking about, your opinion is valid.

Well she has a point. Its no secret women make less than men for the same amount of work. However Monique couldve let that oscar blow her head up causing her to make some outrageous salary demands. I dont know who to believe anymore.

THE SAME WAY MYCLEF DAMAGED LAURYN HILL CAREER WITH ALL THOSE SLANDERING INTERVIEWS HE WAS DOING, IS THE SAME THING LEE DANIELS IS DOIN TO MO

    RULE NUMBER ONE
-STICK TOGETHER NEVER LET THEM SEE U DOWNING AND BASHING YOUR OWN. IT ONLY VALIDATES WHAT THEY ALREADY THINK. LEE DANIELS IS A HORRIBLE GAY MAN WHO SHOULDA SHUT HIS MOUTH INSTEAD OF SIDING WITH HOLLYWOOD.

She refused to go to freaking Cannes to promote Precious and campaign for the Oscar unless she was paid by the studio, and then when she won the Oscar, her acceptance was slightly ungracious. TPsTB thought she was being difficult, and as a consequence, she didn’t get offered good roles. There’s nothing difficult to understand about this. Self-inflicted wounds are hard to admit, but it’s time for Mo’Nique to move on.

This is getting so good. People were hooping and hollering over Patricia Arquette’s acceptance speech but honestly she makes a hella lot more than any of these black actresses who could do her job ten times better. She’s not a bigger name than Monique (maybe her last name is) nor is she a better actress. Monique is coming out with the truth. She isn’t hurting financially nor is she worried about being A-List in hollywood so she can say how she feels without any remorse. Keep speaking up!

    • Shaquinisha-rose March 5, 2015

Oh really? And how do you know this??

  15. Shaquinisha-rose March 5, 2015

Oh Bish seriously? Why bring race into this? You made diva demands, and expected top dollar after winning the Oscar. Thanks not what you got. Be humble. Sure, women should DEFINITELY be paid equal to their male counterparts but this isn’t/wasn’t the issue when it came/comes to Monique. It was her attitude that “I won the Oscar, so I should be paid whatever I damn well ask”!

  16. pat March 5, 2015

please..its all about pulling in an audience….monique doesnt bring a big enough audience to be demanding….i’ll wait for taraji, kerry, viola, etc.
