Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon‘s split is nearing official status.
Numerous new reports confirm that Cannon filed for divorce from the legendary diva last month.

TMZ reports:
We found out Nick filed papers December 12. The date is relevant because on December 2, Mariah showed up 3 hours late to tape a segment for the NBC tree-lighting special.
At the time we reported Mariah was on the phone with her lawyers going over the terms of her property settlement. That syncs up with Nick filing papers a week later, after they hashed out a deal.
On the surface, it’s somewhat surprising that Nick started proceedings, as he publicly went to bat for the the marriage once news initially hit that there was trouble in paradise.
That said, there’s every chance his filing was merely a formality in what was likely a financially complicated “uncoupling”.
On a somewhat random note, one also has to wonder if Mimi’s new Vegas deal had any bearing on proceedings?
Whatever the case, we wish Carey and Cannon the best.

Sad news but I give props to Mariah for picking the right guy to marry and to have children with.
Most of the time, I feel sorry for our African American Divas because they have to find their way in a sea full of ninjas who happen to be millionnaires. Most of those ninjas tend to drive the divas confused with their antics (Chico DeBarge, Bobby Brown, K-Ci from Jodeci, Future, Chris Brown).

Congrats to Mariah. After some years that I know were very happy with someone younger and funny and perfect to have children this is a needed new start, and she has handled it surprisingly good it seems. She looks great and the tour did wonders for her and her voice.
I was always on the fence of her being with him because, on hand he is super fine and on the hush a money maker, but on the other he was super silly and somewhat of a corn ball (comedy wise). There is no balance between two personalities like that. Mariah needs a Mr. Bigs to her girly Carie.
