“If you gaze into the future…you might think life would be a breeze….seeing trouble from a distance, but it’s not that easy.”
Fans of singer/actress Raven Symone will be more than familiar with the lyrics above, as they are pulled from the theme song of her hit Disney TV show ‘That’s So Raven.’
Hailed for its comedic handling of topics its contemporaries ensured they steered away from (teen smoking being one of them), next January will mark 12 years since the show’s first episode aired, and eight years since it bid adieu to the world for good.
This year, in celebration of Symone’s career, Oprah Winfrey invited her to star in a ‘Where Are They Now‘ special, which saw the star reveal that she is tired of being labeled “gay” or “African-American.”
Watch below…
I don’t want to be labeled gay. I want to be labeled ‘a human who loves humans. I’m tired of being labeled.I’m not African-American; I’m an American.
Love her!! And I agree with her, why label yourself?
Your free to do and to be anything you want/like.
Labelling is use to separate most things, like everyone’s human deal with it.
Shut up loose booty F A G!
@Yasssss hunt; No. You Shut up.
I ENJOYED the HELL outta her interview last night. She went off & spoke that TRUTH! She is o snippy & shady. I love it. Go head Raven!

The Queen Of Disney Channel
Yes girl. Preach it. There’s so many things still attached to black people that come from the days of segregation, even slavery… And people don’t even realize. It’s just like when a bi racial person is classed as ‘black’. S**** day shitt!
Yep, the little drop ish!!!
Its good she is living her life the way she wants to, and oh she has a little crush on Mrs.Jackson!!! (saw the episode)
Love Raven
I agree with the most of what she said but your still black boo boo it’s no denying that hun.
I wouldn’t even classify myself as an American because we suck as a country I’ll just say I’m Human that lives in America and move on with life…
I’d say you missed the point.
No i didn’t now out my face d***.
She didn’t deny it…She just doesn’t label herself. She know’s her skin color is black. She know’s she is black. smh
I wish beyonce can sound this intelligent.
That was one of the dumbest, most ignorant statements I’ve seen in a long time.
I don’t really care what she’s saying her hair is hideous just like her fashion ughh! Pretty but very off!
Girl not with that Barney ass AVI
But you using Ciara’s pic as your AVI whose more pathetic..don’t want to show dat Shaneneh face!
LOVE Raven, I cant agree more with her statement, She spoke how she felt and I respect her, because most people would just accept any label society or white America tries to make you
The contradictions in that statement. She’s trying to be deep and profound, cute. I’m living for the shade she put on them Disney h*es though! Preachhh!!!
If only beyonce can sound it intelligent.
WHY ISNT THAT’S SO RAVEN ON NETFLIX? WHYYY?
Taking out of text. Why my people have to be so dumb? The only time I’m ashamed to be African American. The ONLY!
Negro Please.
Where are my intelligent ppl at?!! I completely understand where she’s coming from. Ppl she is speaking of labels that society places on ppl. Labels that we are expected to accept and live up to. She’s not denying being lesbian or black. But there is a stigma that comes with certain labels. If your African American xyz. If your Gay xyz. If your a woman xyz. If your rich xyz…and the list goes on. She is speaking from her own truths and I dig it. When u strip away labels you can live a more free live. Free from others expectations of what you should be. Just saying
everything she said is so true, and I am from Louisiana too…funny, anyway…LOVED IT RAVEN! Labels & being categorized is sad, like we are some type of alien, or brand….
I am on the fence about that African-American statement. If she was saying that she doesn’t like the stigma or negative connotations of what comes with being labeled “African-American” she should have explicitly said that. And saying I’m “American” but don’t like labels is a contradiction. “American” is a label.
This Lezzy is trying to sound deep and I just don’t know what to make of it. I like the Lindsay Lohan shade thought.
