After many a murmur, it has been confirmed. ‘Scandal’ season 6 has officially been slashed to 16 episodes.

With lead Kerry Washington expecting her second child, the shape of the show’s upcoming season has been remoulded. Its date too, but we’ll get to that shortly.
After its debut in 2011, ‘Scandal’ has generally averaged a 20-episode order from the network, but it’s become clear that with its central star in advanced stage of pregnancy, the traditional filming schedule will not work.
The move, which was confirmed at the ABC Upfront presentation in NYC today, brings an end (perhaps temporarily) to the Shondaland block of programming that has dominated Thursday nights for the last two years.
Now, instead of running alongside ‘Greys Anatomy’ and ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ this Fall, ‘Scandal’s 6th cycle will air during TV’s midseason – meaning an early 2017 premiere is likely.
By airing as such, it’ll climax around its usual May window. Which, should it be renewed, will easily allow for a return to its historical September-May schedule.
A replacement has been set in the form of new show ‘Notorious,’ which though not a Shonda Rhimes production, thematically mirrors ‘Scandal.’ Indeed, it’s billed as following the “sexy and dangerous interplay” between criminal law and the media.
Still, with an elongated stay off air, will absence make the heart grow fonder or is ‘Scandal’ at risk of losing its audience?
This used to be my show! But when she openly started to date Fitz, this last season has really gotten messy and on my last nerve. Just cancel it please.
The show is boring they need to go back to the drawing board or just cut it
What made Scandal great, was that in it’s first 2 seasons, every episode had it’s own plot, it’s own identity and it kept you on the edge of your seat. Now, since then, it has become an elongated storyline and drama-filled soap opera. Every episode continues where the previous one left off. There is no “uh oh” or OMG moments anymore. It has become predictable…..In a way.
Good! This should give them a chance to actually go back to the drawing board and create watchable television (although they have already irreparably damaged Olivia’s character). It was really obvious Kerry was pregnant in S3 and they didn’t even try to mask it, so at least now they are thinking ahead.
Scandal jumped the shark when Olivia was kidnapped. After that, the show became a boring soap opera. Shonda should really get back to basics with this show and give us must see tv again.
It also gives Kerry time because she’s pregnant again!
