The R&B singer has been on the receiving end of a social media lashing today.
Why, you may wonder?
Well, his comments about fellow ‘Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood’ cast-mate Milan weren’t perhaps as politically correct as intended.

As reported, the the aspiring rapper is said be receiving a tough time from other males on the show, with the reason cited being his sexuality and lack of star status (ironic on too many levels, but we digress).
TMZ caught up with Omarion and quizzed the ‘Post To Be’ crooner on this thoughts on the matter.
His response was muddled, arguably offensive, but most of all confusing – in both content and delivery. Check it out:
So, on the one hand, he seemed nauseated by the whole topic, insisting “they can keep that motherf**king sh*t far away from my storyline.” Yet, he follows that up with a backhanded declaration of support by empathising with Milan just wanting to “get money.”
To make matters muckier, his statement that gay is “popular right now” (and the suggestion that producers are smart to capitalize on that) derailed what was already a shaky train of conversation.
Granted it’s clear to see “some” of what Omari was trying to say, there were one too many foot-in-mouth moments to muster up any kind of defence for him. Put simply, the lashing is deserved.

I kind of agree with Omari though. The popularity aspect of being gay is GROWING. Unfortunately so many young people are out here “Being Gay” because it’s cute or it’s “in”. Everything we (People in General) do nowadays is going to be an item to try and capitalize off of… so in that sense I agree with folk, but on the other…he shoulda definitely had his PR team on speed dial…
Keep in mind the world’s population is constantly growing and there always has been a static % of homosexuals in society. Growing tolerance in countries toward LGBT community will also lead to people being more open about their “nasty secret”.
So it’s not PR thing, it’s cause we as civilisation are on constant progress. It’s not a disease and people are getting used to it.
Being gay is a choice and this is his opinion, which I happen to agree withh. I wont be watching this s***

What I got from it when he said “they can keep that motherf**king sh*t far away from my storyline.” was him not being involved in THE STORY of being one who does not wanting to film with dude because he’s a homosexual. And he’s right being GAY is apparently what’s popular right now. The lashing wasn’t deserved…I think he handled the questioning well.

I think so many people are denying the reality that homosexuality IS the popular thing right now. Gays are now allowed to marry, the topic and discussion of homosexuality is all very popular and that causes people such as Mona Scott to use that to her advantage when it comes to reality television. I understand what Omarion is saying and I don’t blame him for not wanting to be involved in Milan’s storyline, just for the simple fact that Mona may play out Milan’s storyline in bad taste just for ratings, and you know she will.

I agree that being gay is being popularized, monetized and hyped by the media in many aspects, but I don’t think anyone is being gay because it’s popular. For all the has been rappers that wont shoot with this dude, I think it speaks to their own insecurities. Hopefully he is a talented rapper and he will be able to showcase his talent, while these DL fools will be hittin up his inbox on the low.
What he said about gay being popular is correct. Surely you’ve noticed how almost every tv show has a gay character in it now. Producers are clearly capitalzing on current social changes in the world. As far as the storyline comment, I think it reflects on the issues between black gays and black straight men, particularly fans to artists. Black gays accuse basically every black male singer of being gay on the DL. Omarion has been accused by black gays of being gay since day one so it’s not hard to see why he’d want to steer clear of that storyline. It may also have to do with the fact that most straight black men are incredibly intolerant of homosexuality. In turn this helps fuel the stereotype of the hypersexual black man seen in real life and reflected in music. The more these black men sing about s**, the more black gays accuse them of being in the closet. Sorry for the essay, just some food for thought.

I know I’m not gay. How, for sure? I grew up around gay people. I’ve had gay friends but even they overstepped at times. I don’t think that as a straight man you’re always gonna feel comfortable in the presence of gay men. Why? Because you’re straight. You identify differently. You live differently. I think I’d much rather feel more comfortable in the presence of someone who’s bisexual (than homosexual), for the simple reason that we’d be able to identify more/relate more.
