Ratings: American Music Awards Up From Last Year’s All-Time Low

Published: Tuesday 21st Nov 2017 by Rashad

A highly touted tribute to Whitney Houston, P!nk/Kelly Clarkson duet, and Diana Ross lifetime achievement honors were undoubtedly among the draws that lured viewers into this year’s American Music Awards.

Hosted by ‘Black-ish’ star Tracee Ellis Ross, the showing – which also featured stage-blazing performances from chart-toppers Shawn Mendes, Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and more – saw a notable improvement in ratings compared to last year’s abysmal 8.18 million (the lowest in its nearly 45 year history).

Curious to see just how many tuned in to see their faves slay the AMA stage?  Look inside:

Viewership = 9.15 million

Although the figures come as the ceremony’s second lowest viewership, it’s always worth noting when an award show’s ratings go up (a rarity).  And, suffice it to say, the show did win the night’s ratings war among non-news or sports-related broadcasts.

    I watched to see if Pat Houston was going to have edges…she didn’t…chile, she needs Kenya Moore Haircare ASAP Ferg, Rocky and Bullwinkle lol ? ??‍?

      Kenya Moore Haircare is fake and that is why Kenya wears weaves. There is no hair product that magically brings back damaged edges. From years of old-school relaxers (chemicals), lye (chemicals), wigs and weaves, people like Pat Houston and Naomi Campbell’s edges are PERMANENTLY gone! Best believe someone like Naomi can afford the best of the best hair care products so if hers is gone what I am saying is REAL.

    You failed to mention that the AMA’s drew in its largest household audience at the 9 to 9:30 slot which is when Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga performed.
    Not mention Xtina’s tribute was trending at number 1 on YouTube with 1.3 millions views and began trending on Twitter at number 3 with #Christina (101k) and again at number 8 with #WHITNEYxCHRISTINA. She also had a slew of artist come to her defense, and also hand the Houston family defended her.
    So above all whether you love or hate Christina, she won that night.

    Awards shows needs to realize Black ppl bring in the ratings. This show did not have one black performer.

      IMO it was sad that there wasn’t any black performers. I know Khalid performed with imagine dragon but he should have got his own set. Where was Sza? Where was Kehani? Cardi B?
