Ratings: Lifetime’s ‘Flint’ Flops

Published: Wednesday 1st Nov 2017 by Rashad

In 2012 Queen Latifah and Jill Scott joined forces for Lifetime’s remake of the iconic 1980s film, ‘Steel Magnolias,’ and scored record ratings for the network in the process.  When the Grammy winners reunited for ‘Flint’ – a heart-tugging, dramatized look at the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Michigan – the response didn’t exactly match the fanfare of their first go round.

Details inside:

Viewership = 894,000

Air Date:  October 28, 2017

Although the film was met with a bit of backlash as some deemed it untimely and its subject matter overall too sensitive to dramatize (given that the issue remains unresolved), ‘Flint’ managed to pull in a moderate audience of approximately 894,000.  Among non-sports and non-news related programming for the day, it ranked #8 for pure ratings.

With demographic and overall ratings included, it barely made it in the top 25.

For its time slot, the movie came in #3 with nearly four times less than the night’s cable ratings winner – Hallmark’s ‘Marry Me at Christmas.’  This, despite the Hallmark film having a considerably lesser known cast and the network being available in less homes than Lifetime.

Was Halloween weekend to blame or were viewers simply put off by the subject matter?  Tell us…
