In life, Whitney Houston‘s narrative was captivating. Fast forward three years after her passing and it’s clear folk remain fascinated by the late diva’s story.

Lifetime learned this over the weekend when they aired their much hyped ‘Whitney’ biopic – the ratings of which have just been released.

How did the Angela Bassett directed production fare? Find out below…

Per a new press release, the movie – which saw Yaya DaCosta play the legendary singer – commanded a total audience of 4.5 million.

The feat makes the film the network’s most watched telecast since last year’s ‘Flowers In The Attic’.

As Lifetime point out, the millions who tuned in to the spectacle (which centered on Houston’s heated relationship with ex husband Bobby Brown) kept watching the additional block of programming dedicated to the star:

An incredible 91% of the Whitney audience tuned in to watch the 10:00pm one-hour special, Bobby Brown: Remembering Whitney, an exclusive, no-holds-barred interview with Houston’s ex-husband about the couple’s powerfully intense relationship, delivering 4.1 million Total Viewers.

At 11:00pm ET/PT, the special Whitney Houston Live: Her Greatest Performances brought in 3.2 million Total Viewers.

Combined, the network’s “Whitney night” delivered  total viewership of 11.8 million.

Winning! And deservedly so. Because, though not perfect, we enjoyed the movie in earnest.

Am i the only one who found it odd that Wendy Williams chose to say NOTHING about this Whitney Houston movie?..very odd.

For an unauthorized Lifetime biopic, it was a damn good one! The very end as she sang I Will Always Love You as she and Bobby stared at each other had me all choked up.

    Very well done!

I thought the movie was very tastefully done and I thoroughly enjoyed the performances that followed. Whitney was indeed the “Queen” of my Saturday Night!!!!

I thought the actors did a good job in the movie but hated the fact that it was just about Bobby. And the movie seemed like Bobby Brown was part of the writing team because they made him look like a great guy. Didn’t him and Whitney do crack together? I didn’t understand that part.

Your 100% right! The movie made Bobby out to be a goodie 2 shoes who only really had an alcohol problem, i thought Bobby had something to do with until i saw his interview after, and he openly said that he was addicted to Heroine, Crack, Base and Cocaine, he said Whitey was not responsible for that and any drugs they did they did together

I know it would be done rite!

It wasn’t a bad film. I do wish it could have been longer to show more of their relationship/story though. Also I do think that the film got to a very near pornographic tip even like 22 minutes into it. Certain scenes like the s** scenes lasted for a bit too long and became raunchy. Then also some musical moments seemed to linger too long as well. I was shocked when she showed and didn’t just allude to Whitney’s drug use 😮

It wasn’t bad but I just wished it was longer and was so centered on her relationship with Bobby Brown. Other than that it was well done and in good taste.

Please! That film was horrible. Totally dragged the little decency Whitney’s legacy had to hell! I did not think Angela B would highlight Whitney’s drug abuse the way she did… So distasteful

  12. Terry B January 19, 2015

The biopic was nice. I do feel it focused on Bobby more than Whitney though.

Shut up. You can always tell who is ugly in real life; they’re the ones who anonymously post the ugliest comments in cyber space.

Best parts were the s** scenes Lool! The actress that played Whitney did good but was annoying at times I mean they really over exaggerated certain parts Lool

By one upset with the drug use they showed of Whitney is not different than those who enable her to use. Leaving that part out also misconstrues who she was behind close doors and what lead to her vocal decline as well as her death. Also, the media MADE it look like bobby put drugs into Whitney’s life but she was using before they were together and after, while he quit.

    • Regina George January 19, 2015

SAY THAT!!! Bobby had a bad boy IMAGE… On that interview Whitney’s mom did with oprah, her bro admitted he and Whitney did drugs wayyyy before she even met Bobby… The people complaining obviously didn’t catch those T’s

Does anyone know the song that was playing during the intro to her birthday party scene? Thanks.

    • bee February 6, 2015

I want to know the name of that song too!

    • isweetiepie February 17, 2015

      Did u find out

  19. isweetiepie February 15, 2015

    Did u ever find out

    • Solo Dolo March 18, 2015

No I never found out. I’m starting to think its not an actual song and maybe just something created for the movie.
