Raven-Symone is against proposed plans to put the African-American abolitionist  on the 20 dollar bill, sharing her reasons during a new episode of ‘The View.’

Her view below…

No offense to everyone who’s going to be mad at me for saying this, I don’t like that idea. I don’t like it. I think we need to move a little bit more forward. I understand, let me just preface, I understand the history, I was taught. I’m in that culture. There’s also Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt…and I personally would’ve chosen Rosa Parks.

I would’ve chosen someone who is closer to the progression that we’re doing now, and I know you have to understand history so you don’t repeat it, but that doesn’t really happen in our world because we still repeat history of hating other cultures over and over again. I would’ve chosen a different one, no offense.

Unfamiliar with Tubman’s story?

Why is Raven intentionally trying to look ugly?? And she needs to sit somewhere, I liked her more when she was in the closet and her mouth was closed…

    • Molly May 14, 2015

Atleast she speaks her truth I can respect that im so sick of people getting criticised over their opinion.

    • You tried May 14, 2015

What the hell is she talking about! She sounds really ignorant! Then she raises an ARGUEMENT of which BLACK WOMAN SHOULD BE ON THE BILL! Is the b**** for real! If it wasn’t for Harriet Tubman and other people in her time most blacks wouldn’t have made it to be free and get to the point where Rosa was even sitting a bus! This girl is clearly losing her mind

      • Beyhive88 May 14, 2015

Thank You!!!.. like more towards our progression, why wouldn’t we want the pioneer of it all

  2. Molly May 14, 2015

They should just leave it as is.

  3. SMH May 14, 2015

I actually understand what she’s saying.

    • Toohotfortv May 14, 2015

      What is she saying?

    • TRUTH SERUM May 14, 2015

      Please explain because I don’t !!

    • SMH May 14, 2015

She’s saying enough with the slavery references. Rosa Parks would be a better choice because she symbolizes progression and change, which is what the current generation is in the middle of trying to achieve. It’s not a disrespect to Harriet Tubman at all.

  4. Quinton251 aka Lil Wayne Stan May 14, 2015

And Raven shouldn’t be on The View, now shut up.

  5. Black power May 14, 2015

Well everyone IS entitled to thier own opinion… So I won’t knock her for that…
I just don’t have as much respect for her as I did growing up.. She’s probably going out of her way to spice up controversy because lord knows the views ratings are S***

  6. Lil Kim thee Only QB May 14, 2015

Martin Luther King should be on the 20 dollar bill tbh

  7. malaware May 14, 2015

She is entitled to her opinion and my opinion of her is shes not so smart.

  8. fatusankoh May 14, 2015

This woman is realy crazy go back to the closet

  9. shwan May 14, 2015

I agree with her. Harriet did a lot for us but the particular battle she fought is over. Slavery is done, except if you talk about the people picking our fruits and veggies for pennies.

Rosa Parks fought the ongoing battle of equality in law and the eyes of man. I agree that we should put someone involved in the civil rights movement on the 20 dollar bill. I also think we would have more success in making the change happen with a figure like Rosa.

    • Mark111 May 14, 2015

Well lets take Lincoln off the penny and $5 with your logic.

      • shwan May 14, 2015

I don’t think you can follow logic. For your statement to follow I would have had to spoken as to why Andrew Jackson should not be on the $20.

      • Toohotfortv May 14, 2015

What the hell are you talking about “shwan”… ? You’re the one who makes no sense. Use contextual clues. I don’t think he was being literal. Sarcasm, analogy…. ever heard of ’em? SMH! A place on a nations currency is generally reserved for people who have positively affected that nations society/culture. The idea that bc there is a lot of pain tied to the story, should by no means diminish the courage nor the accomplishments she made in freeing so many of her people… people who then went on to be leaders, activists, educators, inventors etc. Her contribution to the USA is invaluable.

      • shwan May 14, 2015

I don’t think you understand. I have not said anything regarding either woman’s worthiness to be placed on the bill. I am concerned with the message that would be sent by choosing one or the other. Today, do we need a gesture that recognizes that the civil rights movement is far from over or do we need one that simply reminds people of things they think already know?

And I know analogies and sarcasm. They should be used to convey a logic argument. Otherwise, they are nonsense. Thanks though!

    • Levi lee May 14, 2015

I think they both fought for freedom and equality the same to breath the same free air as the next man I don’t think that struggle has ended poverty and mental slavery I am the same chains with new names

  10. Mark111 May 14, 2015

It took people like Tubman for us to even get to the civil right movement. I don’t understand why us Black are wanting to erase our history. They should be honored, not forgotten. But i too would like MLK on the bill. Heck, we have OLD presidents on our bills, why not brave Americans throughout history?

    • shwan May 14, 2015

I think we would have to change a lot of things if we want to honor all the prominent figures in our history. First thing would be to actually teach African American history in our schools. I was astounded at my own ignorance when I took a college course on the subject.

I say choose the figure that has the greatest relevance to today’s problems.

    • TRUTH SERUM May 14, 2015

The old Mark is back!!! You got a new boo or something?

  11. FutureCIARA May 14, 2015

I agree with her, the intentions of putting her on the bill was probably disgusting way of reminding a group of people what once was…. It comes off as a slick shady way of saying “Hey, remember this?” An act of throwing slavery in the faces of everyone, I feel we are definitely on the rise of another large civil rights movement.

    • D May 14, 2015

      I second that.

    • Lmfao_Hoe May 14, 2015

People like you need to wake up. How the hell is that going to come off as being shady?!? Foh, cause if that’s the case try telling the Jews to forget the Holocaust and the tell the families of 911 to get over it. No you wouldn’t do that cause it’ll come off offensive, yet Black ppl have gone thru terrible unimaginable s*** for centuries (slavery/robbed/hated for no reason/mocked/killed/seperated from loved from loved 1s ) only 4 you to even say it’ll be shady smh.

  12. Cough Cough May 14, 2015

She’s entitled to feel how she wants to. I don’t get mad at anyone for a difference of opinion and if she feels Rosa Parks would have been a better choice, she’s 100% correct in her truth to feel as such. I’m tired of people getting b*** hurt for differences of opinion. Everyone has never and will never feel as one. Get over it. Deal with it.

    • Mark111 May 14, 2015

True, very true. But she should word out her opinions fully and clearly.

She just love steering the pot. I think someone is really trying to show The View she can be just as controversial as Rosie and others. #Gurlbye

  15. ronnoc May 14, 2015

She would prefer Rosa parks overy tubman… okay, what the fuxk is the big deal? They are both important figures in our country’s history… i actually agree with her. Rosa parks’ situation is more pertinent to what we are going through at the moment

  16. BossB*tchBeyonce May 14, 2015

I kinda agree with her but she worded it way wrong. the way she’s saying it it sounds like she doesn’t want to acknowledge our FULL history. I’m not a mind-reader but what I think she was trying to say was choose someone that is a more precise more current representation of what we’re dealing with today(racial discrimination/inequality). In which case Rosa Parks or even MLK would make an excellent candidate. Either way whether it is Harriet or Rosa on the 20 the point is that we are making progress and it will have the old racist sexist white men over at fox news seething!

  17. TRUTH SERUM May 14, 2015

With her logic, you might as well take all the past presidents off the bills.. She’s not the sharpest tool in the toolbox… Stacy Dash, she’s coming for your Feaux news job. Lmao

  18. I don’t stan May 14, 2015

Says the woman who thought Africa was a country….-_-

  19. Bravo!! May 14, 2015

Why is all money faced with white Americas? She raising a good question though! Why Martin Luther king, Rosa park, Harriet Tubman, or many other black who build America not on a American money or coin. But at the end of the day let the white man have it greed and destruction of the world.
