Report: 2017 Golden Globes A Ratings Winner

The 74th annual Golden Globes, hosted by ‘Tonight Show’ host/funnyman Jimmy Fallon, was greeted by a much needed ratings spike after see two consecutive years of decline.

Viewers anxious to see who would take home the coveted trophies amongst television nominees ‘Atlanta’ (FX), ‘Scandal’ (ABC), and ‘Black-ish’ (ABC) as well as film nominees ‘Hidden Figures’ (Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer), ‘Fences’ (Denzel Washington, Viola Davis), and ‘Moonlight’ (Mahershala Ali) were thrilled to see their favorites take the gold.

Via Variety:

Viewership of NBC’s Golden Globe Awards telecast was by far the big winner on Sunday night. The show brought in 20 million viewers on the nose and a 5.6 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic.

Most awards shows are seeing declines of late, and the Globes isn’t immune, but the 74th edition was an improvement on the last two outings. Last year, the Golden Globes telecast ended up pulling in 18.5 million viewers, down from 19.3 million the previous year. That’s up 2% from last year and 6% from 2015, but down from the 14.0 rating the show garnered in 2014.

Erm! That makes no sense because they had no idea she was going to make the #golden speech. They had a bigger reach because people who wouldn’t usually tune in tuned in to see if their favourite films and shows would win.

The golden globes is supposed to be the more loose and edgy award show, and this year was a great show. The Oscars will be paid dust this year once again.

we were waiting to see if MOONLIGHT would be treated with the critical respect and acclaim that it clearly deserves — but instead disappointed to watch yet another lilly white baseless film walk away with a slew of undeserved awards.
