After a lengthy period of anticipation, the long awaited Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Andre 3000 has finally received a release date.

Find out when you can see the upcoming biopic “Jimi: All Is By My Side” after the jump…

According to Vibe, the John Ridley (“12 Years a Slave”) written and directed film will be released on June 13th in America and August 8th in the UK. Although details about the release are scarce, it seems as if the film could make a debut in theaters as opposed to a television release of sorts.

For years, there have been rumors of a new Jimi Hendrix biopic and it was finally shot last year in Dublin. The news means there’s steam in the engine to get this movie out for the world to see. Variety reported a week ago that the film was chosen to open The Seattle Film Festival on May 15th.

By the looks of the trailer, it’s shaping up to be one special project. We’re officially excited.

Can’t wait for this, Jimi Hendrix is the most influential black musician,(don’t you dare to say MJ, he did not cause any impact in Rock music) he influenced almost all Rock bands that came after him, his introduction of how a Guitar should be played in music changed everything, he was the first black superstar, he is Iconic.

Why do people have to discredit one person’s achievements to uplift the other one?

Jimi Hendrix influenced rock music but MJ is a GLOBAL phenomenon. Michael influence on popular culture from videos to music to dance and even in terms of fashion is unparalleled.
Let’s just celebrate both of these black icons who opened doors for black people in popular culture.
I have nothing but respect for Jimi Hendrix, just like I respect MJ, James Brown, Spike Lee, Michael Jordan, Mandela and all the other black icons.

I didn’t downplay MJ, i mentioned him because for some reasons, 90% of people in this site believe he was/is the greatest thing in music, he was one of the most commercially successful artists of all times but his contributions to the Music itself isn’t as big as others, MJ’s influence in music is mostly seen in R&B/Pop male singers, he has more impact on choreographies, the dancing style of most Pop performers, even Pop girls but as far as the Music itself, nobody sounds like him, even his wannabes, JT, Usher, Chris Brown’s music don’t sound nothing like MJ’s music, yes!, it’s Pop music but very, very different, meanwhile we can see The Beatles influence in Music in almost all bands, they all sounds at some point like them, from Oasis to the Hollies, the sound is straight BEATLES, the same applies to Madonna, her contribution to Pop Music can be hear in Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Rihanna and the likes, you can found each one of them in Madonna’s discography, that’s what i call IMPACT in Music, which MJ undoubtedly has, there’s not doubt of that but not as big as most people think, hence, that’s why i think Hendrix is the most influential black musician and the one who has contributed the most to MUSIC.

I agree with HK. You can love Rihanna AND beyonce, Janet AND ciara, Lil Kim AND Nicki Minaj, Lebron James AND Michael Jordan, Prince AND MJ. Mariah AND Ariana Grande.

WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE A CHOICE?

We can respect the legends AND the up and coming stars. That’s how it should be if we want our culture to constantly grow and evolve.
