Continuing their trend of high-profile biopics, Lifetime are reportedly gearing up to produce a new narrative based around the life of Grammy winning diva Toni Braxton.

Details below…

Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411 revealed that the network will create the flick – tentatively titled ‘Unbreak My Heart: The Toni Braxton Story’ – with the singer’s recent autobiography as its key source. Vondie Curtis Hall has been tapped to direct.

It goes without saying that Toni’s life has long been a movie waiting to happen. Indeed, her tale is one of immense success and triumphs, as well health scares and financial challenges. In recent times, though, redemption has been a key theme (as evidenced by this year’s Grammy win with Babyface for their stellar album ‘Love, Marriage, & Divorce’).

Per the report, it’s expected for the flick to touch on all facets of the contralto’s fascinating life.

****************

As the last year has taught us, Lifetime biopics can skew in the right direction (‘Whitney’) and yet tumble with the terrible (‘Aaliyah’). Hence, we greet this news with caution.

That said, it does look to be off to a smart start; Braxton is thankfully still here to guide and basing the movie around her autography certainly helps its validity from the jump.

I love Toni! Omg I can’t wait, now if they could just create a biopic of King B aka Brandy.

    • MUSICHEAD September 15, 2015

Nah. They should wait for Brandy to write the book first

No! Noooooo! Hell to the no! You will absolutely NOT f*** up Toni like you did Aaliyah and Nippy! I KNOW Tamar will not allow this! They better go ahead and let it go because it’s just not happening. Nope….not by Lifetime”s let’s make up a story because we don’t have the rights to show the truth asses.

    • Lmfao_Hoe September 15, 2015

You better preach ! Cause the way they did Whitney and Aaliyah was distasteful and utterly disrespectful to their legacy.

      • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 15, 2015

Yep! Say it and shame them basic ass, petty, story telling h***! They didn’t have the rights to do IMPORTANT things and they still did it anyway. They deserve to flop honestly.

    • raego826 September 16, 2015

Toni will produce and be the lead of the movie. So I don’t know how they could do her wrong.

And they better not even think about trying it with Queen Janet or Mariah. That would he a bad day in Hell.

    • Teflon Boy September 15, 2015

^God, could you imagine?! At least with those two they are Legendary enough to probably get a high end biopic made at some point. The problem with less famous stars or dead stars such as Aaliyah and Whitney is that they have no say in the movie that gets made.

Well, that’s true. But I know for a fact if MJ was still alive, he would be fighting these biopics left and right all from his bed. Especially one about him or his sister. He would go all out for those two biopics.

  4. Teflon Boy September 15, 2015

The problem with these films is once they have sullied the landscape with their abominable ‘version’, it totally kills the likelihood of a high-end, credible interpretation hitting the screens. Like, do you want Wendy Williams producing the movie of your life in collaboration with Lifetime or do you want David Fincher to produce it in collaboration with 20th Century Fox? I know which one I’d rather.

  5. iSpeakTruthNoFallacy September 15, 2015

I LOOOOVVEEE Toni Braxton, but I’m sure as hell not watching a biopic about her. From her annoying ass sister Tamar and her crazy family, I think I’ve seen enough. The ONLY thing I would be interested in seeing is the music business side of how she went bankrupt TWICE!

    • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 15, 2015

I thought it was three times, with the most recent bei g after her album with Baby face was released because she didn’t make enough money to pay the label back for promotion and studio time.

      • cassandra chen September 15, 2015

To times in the 90s and 2010 – lupus. Its all in her book , leave the blogs alone

      • iSpeakTruthNoFallacy September 15, 2015

You’re right; it has been three times. Now how she continually goes bankrupt is what I want to see

    • cassandra chen September 16, 2015

Toni went bankrupt 2 times. She is one smart woman because by doing that she was able to get the lable to pay her millions after they rob her and also did not have to pay in 2010 when insurance company defaulted. Lol at that one making up story about the 3rd one that did not happen… How can she not make enough money when she bought a $3m house shortly after case close …. Dwl at the reach

As long as Wendy Williams goes nowhere near this project, I’m cool with it!

Just because it’s Lifetime, you should be worried about it. It’s freakingg Lifetime! Bad actors, repetitive plot/story, cheesy events, the whole 9.

  7. MUSICHEAD September 15, 2015

They gon have Sweet Brown playing Toni. A mess!

  8. Barb-wire September 15, 2015

More like we greet this news with the middle finger, Sam. They’re goin f**** this up just like the previous projects they handled. Toni Sis it’s not too late to stop this mess, you certainly won’t lose anything.

  9. Shady81 September 15, 2015

What Lifetime has been a cable station about women being violated by men. Now to the most horrible biopics in the world, SMH they just better stay away from the Jacksons that’s all I have to say if not those lawsuits would be flying left to right.

  10. BeyRihLiyah September 15, 2015

No no no no no lifetime need to leave biopics alone why are they trying to always tell peoples life stories

  11. What now September 15, 2015

Well this has a chance of being gud or even slightly decent (unlike the Whitney & Aaliyah), bc Toni iz still here 2 direct and etc., so it mite end up gud like TLC’s biopic. I’m here 4 it. Toni iz bae.

  12. Erik September 15, 2015

I love Toni and her story is one of that deserves more than a 2hr (with commercials) lifetime movie…from her huge success, brakeing Broadway barriers, her huge comeback, lawsuits with two record labels, brakeing barriers in Las Vegas, going bankrupt AGAIN!, dealing with Lupus, having an autistic son and on top of that, dealing with leaching (and some jealous) sisters..this is a story that needs to be told, but appropriately. This is a story (along with Whitney) that deserves to be on the big screen..Toni is the ultimate survivor.. What other Diva is going platinum these days??

  13. Danny Bey September 15, 2015

They never “skew in the right direction” TGJ. Tf you talmbout? Whitney was not a good movie no matter how much hall enjoyed it. These lifetime biopics do not do any body any justice with their poor casting, low budget set ups, and inaccurate/biased storylines. VH1 Behind The Music docs do so much more than Liftimes basic efforts.

  14. credits September 15, 2015

I’d rather see VH1 do it the way they did the TLC movie. The way it was promoted and rolled out was perfect for TLC. And they should get the same actors to play LA Reid and Pebbles lol.

    • RihYonce September 15, 2015

      I agree

  15. RihYonce September 15, 2015

I’m here for it. Even though I would’ve rather wanted VH1 to do it. But if it’s anything like Aaliyah’s & Whitney’s movie then they can keep it. But I think Toni’s life story is a bit more interesting than the other two so idk…. I have to hold on judgement

  16. Sean September 15, 2015

Their neice Ashlee Braxton should play Toni!! That’ll be a good look…shes a tad bit darker than Toni but im sure they can airbrush her for the gawds lol

  17. Stephy. September 15, 2015

Why are they putting these biopics on basic cable? Whitney Houston, TLC, Aaliyah etc… All should’ve had 2-4 hour long (mostly for Nippy or any other massive icon of that status) biopics on HBO/SHOWTIME/STARS. I hate watching censored, watered down & COMMERCIAL filled biopics. But, I’ma still be watching tho.

  18. StrawberryMuffin24 September 15, 2015

I’m sure Toni will have input so this Should be good I love Toni Braxton!

  19. Keneef September 15, 2015

None of these movies will ever be as good as the Fantasia Barrio: Life Time movie! Now that was an amazing movie!

    • Danny Bey September 16, 2015

That’s cuz she played herself! You can’t get much dealer and close to the character than that! Lol

  20. Carry On September 15, 2015

I can’t even think about it for waiting. Chile, tell them the truth; people don’t want the truth behind nothing. Who’s going to play all those musical geniuses?

  21. Mimi ross January 25, 2016

The best true life story movies were why do fools fall in love, and the tlc story!!! The best ive seen and the new.bonnie and clyde true story!!but the others were terrible! Thats the truth! I saw toni braxtons movie on lifetime and vh1 did a better job! This movie could have done better! The cast was all wrong for the part! And the lip synching by the mainstar was so obvious!! Lifetime movies are never great,or good to see,its usually a disasterlik it was with aaliyah, and whitney!
