Welcome to Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature launched to celebrate TV and Film’s brilliant past.

Today’s visit sees us take a journey into the recent past to celebrate the movie ‘Gone Girl‘, a psychological thriller which tells the tale of a man whose wholesome image is tarnished when the world discovers his connection to the disappearance of his famous wife.

Stellar performances from Rosamund Pike, Ben Affleck, Tyler Perry and Neil Patrick Harris saw the movie bag a total of 28 gongs during its run at awards season and earn over $300 million at the box office.

Press play to revisit the movie and learn more about the book it was based on below…

Gillian Flynn, the book’s author, had this to say about the criticism her tale of deceit garnered…

The one thing that really frustrates me is this idea that women are innately good, innately nurturing. In literature, they can be dismissably bad – trampy, vampy, bitchy types – but there’s still a big pushback against the idea that women can be just pragmatically evil, bad and selfish … I don’t write psycho bitches. The psycho bitch is just crazy – she has no motive, and so she’s a dismissible person because of her psycho-bitchiness.

This is a strange Retro Rewind isn´t it? Why this film? Such a recent film anyway? It was a great one though. And Rosamund oscar nomination so deserved.

Great movie. Rosamund Pike is bad @$$ in this movie. Tyler Perry has a minor role in the movie, but it’s some of his best acting (which doesn’t say much).
