Welcome to another edition of Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature launched to celebrate TV and Film’s glorious past.

Today, we revisit Madonna‘s seminal ‘Truth or Dare‘, the documentary she shot while on her ‘Blonde Ambition Tour’ in 1991.

In it, the ‘Bad Girl’ offered fans access to her life on the road, her friendships with members of her team and, more importantly, the truth behind their painful childhoods and how it shaped them as they delivered the show to fans all over the world.

Its moving nature saw the project generate $29,012,935 and go on to inspire Lady GaGa’s ‘Lady GaGa Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden’ in 2011.

That isn’t all.

The movie also features appearances from Lionel Ritchie, Warren BeattyAntonio Banderas, the “neat” Kevin Costner and…(drumroll) an unforgettable Janet Jackson dig.

Unfortunately, it also showcases some of the crueller parts of the icon’s personality.

How so?

Watch below…

We look forward to a time in which the industry delivers artists as interesting and artistic as Madonna.

Your thoughts?

Beyonce already surpassed hagdonna, no one cares about vintage videos, Beyonce is happening now, we are experiencing a living legend, the sooner you accept it, the better. Britney, jlo, xtina, Ashanty, brandy, keri, Monica, I mean, who else has killed so many careers, and send to retirement so many flop singers.

I may not be a huge Madonna fan but I do respect her hustle and artistry. For the past couple of days I’ve been bumping to her Bedtime Stories and Ray of Light. Despite her attics n gimmicks the woman has hidden gems on theses albums . I swear “Inside of Me ” is such an inspirational song in the sense of losing a love while others tried to tear you down.

Lol sit down little boy. Madonna is at the top of SEVERAL Greatest of All Time lists. Beyonce isn’t even in the top 20 of any of them-but Rihanna is. So who has Beyonce surpassed again?

I don’t know what was in the water where Madonna was born, but homegirl is a doozy lol…she has charisma for days, blessed with unique good looks, cool as all get out, and she’s accepting of all people! Madonna is progressive in just about everything she does…critics and music listeners who dismiss her work look back and realize there was more there than what they initially thought…but the critics got it right with Truth Or Dare! This is a beautiful film about the Queen of this Pop thing! As much as Madonna has done for female AND male artists, sexxual freedom and acceptability, the music is what did it ALL…this woman is on another level creatively, musically, lyrically and visually, and has accomplished more with the tone of her “voice” than many certified SANGERS…I’m going to watch Truth Or Dare again soon with Christmas cookies and a big cup of Earl Grey tea…I suggest you do the same lol

Beyonce? She can’t claim that throne until she has at least 15 number one songs in both sides of the Atlantic.Yes..she has the potential in the touring aspect and she sings better than Madonna. But in the end..its all about the music.Timeless music
