Retro Rewind: ‘Murder, She Wrote’

Published: Saturday 25th Nov 2017 by David

Welcome to Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature carved out to celebrate TV and Film’s glorious past.

On the agenda? Revisiting the hit series ‘Murder She Wrote’.

In the series a crime novelist named Jessica Fletcher finds herself forced to solve murders we lowkey suspect she committed   tied to her wealthy, affluent and often foolhardy friends.

With intuition on her side, the writer often gets to the bottom of each case without the help of the local police force and those who stand to benefit from the crime.

Our favourite episode? ‘Kendo Killing.’

Ready to take that journey to the past?

Hit the play button below…

The Agatha Christie-inspired series ran for 12 seasons, kicking off in 1984 and ending in 1996 much to the delight of fans who were served 264 episodes.

As for a reboot starring its original star Angela Lansbury? Unlikely.

I think it would be a downer. In some way, we’d have to show her as a much older woman, and I think it’s better to maintain that picture we have in our mind’s eye of her as a vigorous person. I’m still pretty vigorous, especially in the garden … but if I wanted to transform myself back into the woman I looked like then, it would be ridiculous. And I can’t do that.

Your thoughts?

Cute, quaint little whodunit. I never watched an episode of this show during its original run, but years after it went in syndication, I caught some episodes and kinda liked it.
