Tracee Ellis Ross, star of ABC’s hit series ‘Black-ish,’ took home a Golden Globe tonight for ‘Best Actress in a Television Comedy or Musical.’  Unknown to many at the time of her win, the achievement came as a historic one as she became the first black woman to walk away with the award in over three decades.

Details inside:

As can be seen from her acceptance award, Ross dedicated the win to many other actresses of color – many of whom are underrepresented in Hollywood.

Ross, who plays Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson on ‘Black-ish’ (which is in its third season), has won her ‘Best Actress’ trophy on her first nomination.  The last time a black woman walked away with the award? Debbie Allen in 1982.

Before her?  Diahann Carroll in 1968!

    Why must biracial people be forced into one race? She is the first biracial/of African descent to win…how does the world ignore these people’s non-colored parent smh. I dont care what someone appears to be…their DNA is their DNA!

      Because if she were to audition for the role of a white woman, she would be laughed out of a room

      • OMG Logic!!! January 8, 2017

        No she wouldn’t. There are tanned Caucasian women throughout Europe with a similar complexion to Ross, and that’s before makeup and lighting do their thing.

        @omg
        Not according to Tracee. She identifies herself as a black woman for a reason. The world treats and perceives her as one. Throughout history, biracial’s have had it just as hard as blacks stupid.
