After tasting ratings success with TLC biopic ‘CrazySexyCool’, VH1 are once again venturing into the scripted film arena. Their latest production? ‘Drumline: A New Beat’ – the sequel to the hit 2002 flick ‘Drumline’.
As previously announced, Nick Cannon (who serves as producer on the reboot) reprises his role as Devon Miles in the marching band movie. Yet, today saw the network draw back the curtain and reveal who else will be joining the mogul in ‘Drumline’s second outing.

VH1′s original movie ”Drumline: A New Beat”welcomes actors LeToya Luckett, Alexandra Shipp, Jordan Calloway, Jeff Pierre, Jasmine Burke and Scott Shilstone to its cast, along with the previously announced star of the original movie, “Drumline,” Leonard Roberts. Executive producer Nick Cannon also reprises the role of Devon Miles in a cameo appearance. Following the success of last year’s “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story,” VH1 is producing the original movie in partnership with Fox Television Studios and targeting a Fall 2014 premiere.
“Drumline: A New Beat”will capture the sound and spirit of the first film while welcoming a whole new class to the Atlanta A & T drumline. The story follows Danielle (Dani) Bolton, an upper class Brooklyn girl who defies her parents in order to attend Atlanta A & T so she can join – and revitalize – their once-prominent drumline. Dani’s quest to become the first female section leader of the drumline in the school’s history will be hampered by upperclassmen (including her cousin, Tyree), her feelings for fellow band mate and rival, Jayven, and the school’s crosstown competitors.{Source}
Sequels are often tricky terrain to tread, yet we know we’ll be watching in hope that it delivers.
Kudos to Ms. Luckett for bagging yet another major role. Although, it does leave us wondering when her long-awaited third album ‘Until Then’ is set to arrive. Especially as those acting checks often pay more than those of the music variety these days. Whatever the case, we’re just glad to see her booking these back-to-back gigs. More power to her.

She has a film out with taraji right now too. It’s no surprise vh1 is tapping her for this movie, she totally owns the role of felicia price on single ladies. Her acting outshines the rest of the cast. It is only a matter of time before she is cast in a breakout role and takes hollywood by storm.
