Walmart Rocked By Racism Lawsuit After Allegedly Hiding Afro Hair Products

Published: Wednesday 31st Jan 2018 by David

$761 million.

That is how much the black hair industry was worth in 2017.

So, keen to cash in, large retailers like Walmart now they sell the products that keep the industry afloat.

Alas, something has gone terribly wrong.

Find out why below…

A woman named Essie Grundy made her merry way into a Walmart in California recently and could not believe her eyes when she realised that all of the store’s black beauty products had been hidden!

Where? Behind a locked glass barrier.

Startled, she whipped her phone out to share what she had seen with her friends and family but soon saw the video reaching viral status.

This week, she has filed a lawsuit against the company with the help of Gloria Allred.

Walmart had this to say for itself…

We’re sensitive to this situation and also understand, like other retailers, that some products such as electronics, automotive, cosmetics and other personal care products are subject to additional security. Those determinations are made on a store-by-store basis using data supporting the need for the heightened measures.

While we’ve yet to review a complaint, we take this situation seriously and look forward to addressing it with the court.

The most interesting part about this story?

It isn’t the first time it has happened.

Why do you think Walmart hid the goods?

She has no case. Each Walmart looks at its statistics of the most stolen items and they safeguard it. That’s why whenever anyone walks into the Deodorant section in Walgreens the innercom says “assistance needed in the deodorant aisle”, that’s Walgreens way of letting it’s workers know to be on the lookout. Maybe at that store it’s one of the most stolen items

Does the intercom really say that when you walk in the deodorant section?

This is dumb. This is not a race thing. This is an issue about what items are being particularly being stolen the most at a specific store location. These kinds of things p*** me off bc when we actually do have a case about a racial issue, no one’s going to take it serious. S*** like this is desensitizing real issues.

      Agreed.

What a joke. Soooo What’s her case? How does this specifically affects her? If that’s the case then I need to go sue walmart myself. Ppl need to get a life and get a job.

They lock things up that are frequently stolen. Tell people to stop stealing those products and maybe they won’t lock them up anymore.

Gloria will take any case. Its almost a joke.

can we spend our energy and time on something more productive, please? this is a dumb case.

walmart (and target, walgreens, cvs, etc) does this all the time to all types of products, not just black hair care products.

I’m more interested in whoever is going to sign the eugenics company also known as Planned Parenthood.

    Does anyone else detest Gloria?

Get real! Many high theft items or dangerous items (like razor blades) are hidden behind glass or special locks on the racks. I’ve seen Tide detergent, Gillette razors and other products protected this way. Frivolous lawsuits like this are the reason why we have a hard time getting people to believe real cases of racism. Shame on her!

I see Cantu Shampoo is locked up when it sells for only $4 bucks on average at Walmart and Target. The same black people that are rallying to support this nonsense would not unify together to support a black owned business but they are busy trying to tell a private white owned store what to sell and how to sell it. I think Walmart is being racist here but there is no legal case. Whatever happened to shopping at Target or Sally’s beauty supply store instead?

Plus if this woman were sincerely about stopping racism why did she get a white attorney instead of a black attorney? The white attorney is only using her for free publicity.

what about when they lock up black spray paint because it has the word negro on it!

This is a simple solution to theft. the products in question are low cost but subject to theft. once again we see the black community in denial of a simple fact. the products in question would not be under higher security unless they were subject to a higher incident of theft. its simple. Gloria Allred like Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson and others are just trying to grandstand and make a buck off this incident. Wall Mart has a right to protect its products from theft weather its a Game Boy or a bottle of African American hair color. Black people like it or not need to look in the mirror and ask what is wrong with us?

  15. Charles Bodnar February 27, 2018

Gloria Allred should lose her license over this case. What a waist. this is a great example of how a person and their atterny bringing a case like this should bear all court costs if the case is lost.
Black people have got to realize that 5% of their population and all there political supporters are keeping them as a race DOWN. Just ask yourself ; In whose best interests is it to keep the Racist pot of Porrage bubbling, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton or the lady complaining about hair products locked up in a Wall Msrt. Please ITS SO SIMPLE
