WGN’s ‘Underground’ Renewed For Season 2

‘All of Me’ hitmaker John Legend proves yet again all of his hits are not limited to the music charts! Indeed, after dominating the entertainment genre then lending his hand to film, Legend adds yet another accomplishment to his storied career – executive producer of WGN America’s knockout hit series ‘Underground.’

Led by Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Aldis Hodge, the breakout show quickly found a devoted fanbase:

” [‘Underground’ is] currently averaging over 1 million viewers per episode in live-plus-same-day ratings and 3 million viewers in live-plus-seven. It was also the sixth highest-rated scripted series premiere of any cable drama this season…”

WGN America has renewed “Underground” for a second season, the network announced Monday.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios, the 10-episode second season order is set to begin production this summer for a 2017 debut…

The report follows news ‘Underground’ will also be seeing its first season hit DVD shelves this summer:

WGN America’s critically acclaimed new drama “Underground: Season One” arrives on DVD June 14… The suspenseful series is executive produced by John Legend via his Get Lifted Film Co., who are also overseeing all music aspects of the gripping 10-episode journey, which follows a group of slaves striving for their freedom from the Macon plantation in 1857 Antebellum, Georgia.  – source

        I never said it was “who we are.” However, it has helped mold us into the strong people that we are today. This is something that we went through for over 300 years. The Black Codes, Jim crow, police brutality, and etc all stem form slavery. This all recent history. Black people werer placed in a hole that we’ve managed to crawl out of with help from noone. That’s something to be proud of. I never want our generation to forget it.

    Well I love it especially that they are daring, witty, and taking their own freedom. Something has to be said of people who go to the depths to obtain freedom in a world like that. I could not live then.
