In an announcement made moments ago, it was revealed that the titillating church drama has been picked up for a third season.
The news comes ahead of the continuation of its second season, which returns this week after a mid-season break. During its hiatus, OWN broadcast the first half the ‘Queen Sugar’ sophomore run.
Speaking on the renewal, OWN’s president Erik Logan said:
“We can’t wait to see what another season of ‘Greenleaf’ will bring. This series was instrumental in evolving OWN’s scripted programming and it continues to pull in viewers each week with its unique storytelling and characters.”
Lionsgate Executive Vice President & Head of Worldwide Scripted Television Chris Selak added:
“We’re excited to extend our relationship with Oprah Winfrey and the OWN team for a third season of the hit series ‘Greenleaf. The combination of a brilliant creator, an incredibly talented cast and inspirational music have positioned ‘Greenleaf’ for a long run, and we can hardly wait to see where the third season takes us.”
‘Greenleaf’ invites viewers into the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their Memphis megachurch, where scandal, secrets, and lies are as plentiful as the worshipers.
Its anchored by Merle Dandridge, Keith David, and Lynn Whitfield.
‘Greenleaf’ is easily one of our favorite “new” shows. It’s compelling viewing and really is a total touchdown for OWN.
We’re elated that there’s more on the way!
