Surprise on isle number five!
Beyonce shocked shoppers at a Massachusetts Walmart last night, descending on the store to celebrate the physical release of her blockbuster new album.
Like the digital release that preceded it, the arrival of the double-disc edition of the “visual LP” was very much an event – with King B not only picking up a copy herself, but awarding all 750 customers in the branch $50 gift vouchers to spend in-store (total worth $37,000).
We love us some savvy promo here at TGJ and this is great PR at its best; especially in light of the shade certain stockists are throwing due to the exclusivity ‘Yonce awarded iTunes. And while it remains to been seen if said stockists will embrace the Holiday spirit, what is certain is that moves like this will keep the star “winning” and then some.

As such, the buzz around E!’s accompanying documentary, ‘I Am Britney Jean’, has been building in anticipation for the residency’s December 27th kick off. As previously reported, the tell-all special, set to air December 22, will see Brit behind the scenes preparing for her Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino gig via footage of the ‘Sometimes’ singer finishing up her ill-fated ‘Britney Jean’ album, shooting music videos, hitting the dance studio, and being a mom.

As fans know, Target may have been a huge celebrator of pop superstar Beyonce‘s ‘4’ album, but it’s self titled follow-up cannot boast the same. In a well-publicized decision, the huge retailer opted against carrying the singer’s 5th album citing unfair ‘preferential treatment’ to Itunes (which exclusively carried the digital version of the album upon its December 13th surprised release).
Now, in another blow to the album, the largest online retailer Amazon has also joined the boycott against Columbia and Sony by refusing to carry the physical copy of the album on its online shelves.
