Let’s take it back to 2007…the year Rihanna became Rihanna.

With two well-received but so-so selling albums behind her, the entertainer stepped into 2007 armed with a fresh batch of hits (some penned with Mary J. Blige, Britney Spears and Nelly Furtado in mind) and a bold new look designed to ensure she stood out when placed next to the bevy of Urban Pop starlets she once trailed behind.

The sum of her reinvention? ‘Good Girl Gone Bad‘, an album/era which saw her dominate Pop’s discourse and cast a multi-platinum shadow on artists she struggled to match on a sales and popularity front just two years before.

Over the past few years modern classic R&B tunes like Monica‘s ‘So Gone,’ Ghost Down DJs’ ‘My Boo,’ and more have experienced a resurgence of sorts thanks to social media.  Now, Grammy-winning rapper DMX can add his name to the list of veteran acts seeing their songs resurrected in the Twitter era.

19 years after his hit, ‘What These B*tches Want’ (featuring Sisqo), dominated Urban airwaves, the Nokio (of Dru Hill)-produced cut is now the center of a viral challenge that celebrates Black women and the diversity of their hairstyles.  As fans remember, the song is an ode to the past loves of X’s life and famously lists them as:

There was Brenda, LaTisha, Linda, Felicia / Dawn, LeShaun, Ines, and Alicia / Teresa, Monica, Sharron, Nicki / Lisa, Veronica, Karen, Vicky / Cookie, well, I met her in a ice cream parlor / Tonya, Diane, Lori, and Carla / Marina, Selena, Katrina, Sabrina / About three Kims, LaToya, and Tina / Shelley, Bridget, Cathy, Rasheeda / Kelly, Nicole, Angel, Juanita / Stacy, Tracie, Rohna, and Ronda / Donna, Ulanda, Tawana, and Wanda.”

The challenge has its participants string together a collage of videos that highlight a different hairdo per name listed.  The comedic movement quickly caught fire on social media and, as a result, has introduced ‘Want’ to a new generation of music lovers.  See how inside:
