Missy Elliott had fans saying WTF after her last three singles (‘WTF,’ ‘Pep Rally,’ and ‘I’m Better’) all came and went without their parent album being furnished.

The release of the critically acclaimed cuts only extended the already 10 year+ long wait, a feat that certainly didn’t go unnoticed by her faithful followers.  Finally – over a year after the release of ‘Better’ – the rapstress responded to their requests for new music by taking to Twitter earlier this month to explain her absence:

Now, with her confidence in tow, it appears she’s ready to make her grand return.  Hear the snippet of her soon-to-come offering, ‘Cool Off’:

From The Vault journeys back to the genesis of the career of an artist that would go on breaking many a record.

Today’s pick is ‘Chasing Pavements’ by the mighty Adele.

The second single of from the songbird’s debut effort ‘19,’ the ballad was written by Adele and produced by Eg White. Based on a previous failed relationship, it deals with moving on after being cheated on.

In the UK, the song peaked at #2. In the US, it gave the singer her first Billboard Hot 100 entry where it went to #21.

‘Pavement’ was nominated for three Grammy Awards and won the Best Female Vocal Performance.

Although it is supposed to be set in London, the video for the song was in fact lensed in Los Angeles.

Directed by Mathew Cullen, it depicts Adele as a witness of a car crash. The visual features stunning choreography from the couple involved in the collision and powerfully puts a unique spin on the song. It was nominated at the 2008 MTV VMA’s and has now amassed over 138 million views on YouTube.

In ten short years, Adele has  established herself as one of music’s leading act and one of the most successful of her generation. Considering she only turned 30 this year, the thought of what the next decade has in store for her has us all sorts of amped.

She and her team seem to have mastered the art of dosage and know exactly just how much to give the public and how to keep us wanting more. Put simply, the what, when, and how.

With the singer keeping a low profile ever since the end of her last tour, it’s safe to assume that “Adele mania” will sweep through the music-scape when she’s ready to bless us with the follow up to ‘25.’ And we can’t wait.

Adele, we salute you.

Lil Wayne‘s comeback has been crowned with chart success.

The Hip-Hop titan uncaged long-awaited album ‘Tha Carter V’ last week – seven years after his last studio effort.

A legal wrangle with Birdman blocked the release of the project, but with the drama behind them the pathway was cleared for the set’s unleashing.

Still, a win was far from a given.

Indeed, beyond the ever-risky reality attached to elongated stints out of the spotlight, during Weezy’s time away the industry shape-shifted towards streaming-led consumption. A fact that’s proven fatal for some acts whose strongest metric was physical sales.

Fortunately for the rapper, he has nothing to worry about. Quite the contrary.

The final numbers are in and they await after the jump…

Your thoughts?

Though many have tried, few have supported Contemporary R&B music in the way the British performer Ella Mai has this year.

For, after polluting the net with poorly written “vibey” cuts, the generation of artists who came before Mai’s chart ascent now cower in the face of her smash hit singles ‘Boo’d Up’ and ‘Trip.’

Says who? The general public who have supported the latter single in their millions.
