It’s been a long time coming, but Mariah Carey‘s new album is well on its way.
With confirmed production from DJ Clue and Randy Jackson, today saw Camp Mimi release footage from a recent studio session with Jermaine Dupri, reportedly shot some weeks ago.
With May earmarked as the window through which new Mariah Carey material will arrive, the diva has re-teamed with longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri.
Taking to Twitter, the ‘Always Be My Baby’ producer wrote:
MARIAH CAREY: MC BACK IN SOUTHSIDE
I said MC they don’t expect you to be camera ready, she said Yes they do LOL!!
MC in the building giving you the ABMB moment
The pair made magic over the years, and will need to conjure up much more if they’re to deliver the “comeback” Carey’s career is need of.
And while their last major outing (‘E=MC2′) saw the pair serve up 100 ‘We Belong Together’ rehashes, we’re confident they can cook up something fresh and dynamic this go round. For, as the ‘Emancipation’ showed, ol’ MiMi is at her best when the odds are stacked against her.
Though one time scheduled to give the Billboard 200 a double dose of ‘Life’, Monica and Mary J. Blige‘s album faceoff was postponed when the ‘So Gone’ diva rescheduled the due date of her forthcoming album ‘New Life’. With its new February 21st release swiftly approaching, Mrs. Brown unveils that instead of a showdown, the two may be prepping a diva duet for the collection before its completion.
“I have a couple of different people that I really like to work with, I’ve always wanted to work with R. Kelly, I’ve always wanted to work with Mary [J. Blige],” Monica admits. I wanted to save that for last because I think it’s always good when you sit down with artists that you admire and love and play them songs and see if anything touches them.”

Sure to send R&B lovers into a frenzy if it comes to pass, the addition of the aforementioned would join the album’s already star-studded credits including (the now ousted) Lil’ Kim, Rick Ross, Jermaine Dupri, Missy Elliott, and more. Fans who are looking for more of Mo should check out her recent interview with New Music Directors after the jump. It’s there she details what listeners can expect from her forthcoming LP:
Today’s From The Vault pick comes in the form of Janet Jackson‘s ‘Call On Me’.
A duet with St. Louis native Nelly, the cut was released in 2006 as the first single from the superstar’s ninth LP,’20 Y.O’. With production courtesy of then-boyfriend Jermaine Dupri and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, ‘Call’ was a moderate hit, peaking at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 for six weeks on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
The track was the triple-threat diva’s first “hand-clap ballad” try out, which had been rather controversial among her legion of fans. In spite of the change in style, the track still had all the winning elements of a classic Janet cut: great harmonies, whimsical melody, catchy hooks…
The Hype Williams directed music video depicts the ‘All For You’ singer as a mystical goddess, and is influenced by African and Asian cultures.
Although its use of CGI was criticized by some, it remains one of the 45 year old’s most artistic videos to date.
One thing is for sure: Janet Jackson is a living legend, a visionary who has changed the face of the entertainment industry forever. Having said that, we strongly feel it’s about time J stopped celebrating past glories from the 80′s and 90′s and started concentrating on having another decade filled with #1′s. As we have stated in previous posts, Damita Jo still has IT in abundance, so there is absoluetly no reason why, given the right material and promotion, she shouldn’t be back on top.
Judging from some of today’s biggest acts, it’s clear to say that the world is in need of some more Discipline from Ms. Jackson (if you Nasty!)
When it comes to entertainers, there are very few who can compare or compete with the quality of Mariah Carey’s back catalog.
One of the world’s highest selling and most critically acclaimed artists, recent months have seen reports of a new album from the singer that many are hoping will live up to the standard of the her earlier material.
Now it has been confirmed that she has summoned world renowned producer Randy Jackson to work on the project, just days after her very telling interview with Barbara Walters surfaced here.
Together they’ve conjured up some of the biggest hits of the last 20 years, and by the looks of it seem to be cooking up more. Of course, we’re talking about Mariah Carey and hitmaker Jermaine Dupri.
The pair were snapped back in the studio together this weekend, presumably for Carey’s hotly anticipated new studio album.
Despite boasting a long list of smashes, both are at points of their careers where they need to serve up something fresh, new, and resonating. Qualities Carey went in search of in 2009 (to little avail) when she ditched Durpi for The Dream on chart flop ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’.
In any case, here’s hoping they whip up something more than ‘We Belong Together’ re-hashes ala the bulk of their work on their last substancial outing ‘E=MC2′. For, they are clearly capable of greatness; and oh is the industry in need of that right now.
While fans may be used to Usher burning up with charts, the R&B veteran is the latest hitmaker feeling the heat – heading from the charts to the court over a plagiarism claim. Joining Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Leona Lewis, the ‘My Way’ maestro will soon be making his way to defend his case after songwriter Ernest Lee Straughter convinced a judge that Mr. Raymond’s 2004 Jermaine Dupri-produced ‘Burn’ plagiarized a work of his.
Last month, a California federal judge found there to be sufficient possibility that Usher and co-defendants who produced the song had access to Slaughter’s work, “Reasons,” created in 1998. The judge accepted a musicologist’s report that noted substantial similarity between the songs and denied a motion to dismiss the case on summary judgment.
Take a listen to both cuts after the jump and you be the judge:
Some five months after popping out “dem babies”, Pop diva Mariah Carey is back to work.
The 41 year old mother of twins is preparing to amp up the recording efforts for her 14th studio album – and this time is asking for help from newcomers.
Michael Jackson may no longer be with us, however a certain rapper is keen to keep the King of Pop’s memory alive – recently getting tattooed in his honour. Find out who after the jump…
Hint: The artist was recently set free from prison.
Janet Jackson guested on ‘Piers Morgan Tonight’ last evening. While chatting with the show’s host, the legendary perform addressed several topics including her new book, ‘True You’, her family issues, her late brother Michael and ex-boyfriend Jermaine Dupri.
It appears Kelly Rowland and her team are sparing no expense with the recording of her third studio album.
Indeed, while being interviewed at a recent Fashion Week event, the singer (who turned 30 yesterday) revealed that she is hitting the studio two A-list producers.
